Eugene Nardelli Obituary

Published by Sperry-McHoul-Pichi Funeral Home on Dec. 3, 2008.
NORTH ATTLEBORO – Eugene R. “Geno” Nardelli, 79, of Mt. Hope Street passed away Sunday, November 30, 2008 in Miriam Hospital, Providence, RI surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Bette (Fisk) Nardelli who passed away in February of 2007 after fifty years of marriage.

Born October 19, 1929 in North Attleboro, he was a son of the late Peter and Maria Nardelli.

Geno was a lifelong resident of North Attleboro and a 1948 graduate of North Attleboro High School. He served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955 as a jet mechanic during the Korean War.

He worked as a firefighter and mechanic for the North Attleboro Fire Department for 31 years before retiring in March of 1986. He also worked for the North Attleboro Park and Recreation Department for over fifty years before retiring completely several years ago.

Geno was a member of the Sons of Italy in North Attleboro for many years and was also a great supporter of the North Attleboro Firefighter’s Kids Day charity, volunteering his time at the event since its inception. He was an avid sports fan and could be found on the fields of North Attleboro cheering his favorite team to victory.

He was very proud of his children and grandchildren and shared in their joy when they competed in football, basketball, cheerleading and quad racing. He was their biggest fan. Geno also had a competitive spirit whether it be bowling in the North Attleboro Bowling League or challenging family members to horseshoe matches at many family outings.

He is survived by his six children and his sons and daughters-in-law, Peter and Kelly Nardelli, Jean Marie and Steven Langille, Steven and Karla Nardelli, Cindy and James Brennan, Beth and Robert Grimes and Julie and Christopher George all of North Attleboro; 12 grandchildren; his sister, Emma Irvine and his mother-in-law, Anita (Fisk) Thorburn both of North Attleboro; and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his four sisters, Nancy Lucchetti, Julia McAvoy, Mary Stack and Carmella Kivlin; and two brothers, James Nardelli and Michael Nardelli.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, December 5 from 1 to 8 p.m. in the SPERRY & McHOUL FUNERAL HOME, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro.

A funeral with Firefighter Honors will be held from the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, Park Street at 10 o’clock. Burial with Firefighter and U.S. Military Honors will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Attleboro Falls.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North Attleboro Firefighters Kids Day Fireworks Fund, 50 Elm Street, North Attleboro, MA 02760.

Julie & family, I was so shocked to learn of your dad's passing. I had no idea he was even sick. I'm sorry I was not there to pay my respects but, I did not learn the news until three days ago. I always thought of him after your mom passed away & wondered how he was. I kept meaning to drop him a note but, my nephew was diagnosed w/Synovial Cell Sarcoma in May 07 & our time was consumed with trips to hospital & spending time with family, praying,etc...We lost Richie on 8/9/08. I'm grateful he's no longer suffering & I truly hope your dad did not suffer. I got to talk to your dad each time I delivered avon to your mom & enjoyed my talks with both of them. They made you feel like you were family, they were such friendly, comforting, compassionate people.
I'm so sorry you had to go thru the pain of losing both parents in less than 2 years, that is so unfair. But,
grateful your dad is not in pain & is now with your mom once again. They're such a wonderful pair. Know that you are in my heart, thoughts and prayers. Let me know if you need anything. All my love and sympathy, Karen Fiske

It saddened me immensely to learn of Geno's passing. He was the person who convinced me years ago to join the NAFD back when I wasn't sure what career path to follow. I have just retired after 31 years on the Department and I am so very proud to say that Geno was a great friend and co-worker. Geno was a wonderful person and he can never be replaced and will never be forgotten. My sincerest and heartfelt condolences go out to Peter, Geno's son and another of my fellow firefighters, and the entire Nardelli family. Rest in Peace, Geno.

I just loved your Dad so much. As kids, we spent lots of time at your house - as did most of North Attleboro over the years! It was like another home - I remember the fire alarm in the hallway and we would listen for the sequence of bells to know where the fire was at that time. I guess that ages me! Your parents were a big part of my life and I am so blessed. Personally, I am very glad I was able to see Uncle Gene about a month ago and joke around with him even in the hospital.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this very sad time. Geno is finally reunited with Bette and keeping her company while watching over all of us. Julie had sent me an email telling me of Geno's condition and for me to stop in and say hello.. well I went on thinking I'll get over there "tomorrow"... Geno's a trooper..he's not going anywhere. I never did make that stop and I learned a big lesson.. Don't ever wait til "tomorrow" because "tomorrow" may not be there. I will miss you Geno..when I moved into 409 Mount Hope St. many years ago, you didn't know me from a whole in the wall. But from Day One.. you treated me like family, as did the rest of your family. I will never forget that. Rest in Peace my friend.

It is with a very heavy heart that we sign Geno's guest book. We loved Geno so much and although we are glad that he is not suffering anymore...we can't help being selfish....still wanting him to be here with all of us. Life will not be the same without him. I feel so sad that you have to suffer like this - you have been through so much as a family. If there was any way I could ease the pain, I would. I know that the love and memories will give you the strength you need (once again) to go on.
Geno was sooooooo well loved and well-known in this community and this is such a great loss to everyone.
The last thing I heard Geno say was that the thing he loved most was to be surrounded by his family and everyone he loved. He truly was, right up until the end, surrounded by that love and that is his true legacy.
You continue to be in my heart and prayers! I love you all.
