Eugene H. Peterson, age 86, of Brandt, SD, passed away Saturday, October 29, 2022 at the Hendricks Hospital. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 3, 2022 at the Highland Lutheran Church in Brandt, SD with Rev. Carlene Rhody officiating. Burial will be in the Highland Lutheran Cemetery, rural Brandt. Visitation will be 5 - 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Highland Lutheran Church in Brandt, SD and will resume Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church. Houseman Funeral Home in Clear Lake, SD is entrusted with the arrangements.
The family requests all memorials go to the Brandt Highland Lutheran Church.
Eugene Herman Peterson was born December 6, 1935 to Herman and Bessie Peterson. Eugene was born on a farm south of Brandt and graduated from Brandt High School. He was baptized in Clear Lake and confirmed at Highland Lutheran Church in Brandt.
Eugene was united in marriage to Shirley Carol Konold on August 29, 1954 at East Highland Lutheran Church. To this union they were blessed with six children: Ricky, Sandra, Michael, Rita, Lisa, and Darin.
Eugene worked one year for Brandt Creamery and then started to farm with his father. He had dairy cows, loved horses, John Deere, two-cylinder tractors, his favorite dog "Fido" and basketball was his best sport.
Eugene served on many Boards including Scandinavian Township, Deuel County Farmer's Union, Deuel County Isaac Walton, AAL and Thrivent. He helped with many fund-raisers, served on the Brandt Community Club and was the youth's treasurer and took care of the concession stand finances at the park. He worked for the town of Brandt on all their celebrations and organized the parades with great pride. He served on the Highland Church Council as Deacon, Trustee, and Financial Secretary.
He thought a lot of his family, grand children, and great grandchildren along with all his friends and neighbors.
Grateful for having shared his life with Shirley and his six children: Rick (Becky), Sandy (Dennis) Weber, Mike (Kim), Rita (Joe Shaw) Schulz, Lisa (Richard) Bren, and Darin (Angie); 12 grandchildren: Ashley Kracke, Tyson Peterson, Amy (Wade) Roesner, Ryan (Joni) Weber, Brooke (Kyle) Linneman, Dustin (Christine) Schulz, Nathan (Trish) Schulz, Chelsea (Eric) Schulz, Austin Bren, Amber (Josh) Medlin, Logan Peterson, Jacob (Tasia) Peterson. 4 step grandchildren: Stacie Telgren and Valerie DeBough, Gerry and Eric Shaw, Gage (Nicole) Thomas. 13 Great Grandchildren: Sutton and Berkley Kracke, Madison, Brayden and Nevaeh Roesner, Jordis Weber, Isabelle and Emma Linneman, Nova and Ellie Schulz, Andrew, Isaac, and Elisabeth Medlin.
Preceded in death by his parents, brother (Kenneth Peterson), 2 sisters Betty (Dean) Brown, and Mildred (Gene) Brown.
