Gene was born the first of eight children on June 11, 1954, to Eugene Sr. and Leona Pinks.
He married lovely Linda Marie Werre on May 11, 1973, and to this union two sons were born, Chris and Scooter Pinks. Linda and Gene shared an inseparable bond that prevailed all throughout their marriage including Linda’s cancer treatment, during which Gene showed his unwavering love and support. They enjoyed making trips to the casino and entertaining friends. They also loved to spend time with their sons, and later adored time with their grandchildren.
Following Linda’s passing, Gene met another wonderful woman, Nancy, with whom he spent the last 14 years of his life. The two of them enjoyed traveling to various places around the country and world, including many national parks, where you could find them hiking and taking in beautiful views. They also took joy in spending time with their dog, Vincent, with whom Gene shared a special bond.
Gene was a man of many trades. During his working years, he held the title of restaurant manager, construction worker, boilermaker, pipefitter, and more. He worked at the Tesoro refinery in Mandan for 19 years, where he made many life-long friends. He retired in 2010.
Gene can be described in many ways, as he was certainly one-of-a-kind. Some things his family and friends describe him as include big-hearted, hardworking, generous, straight-forward, supportive, humble, and caretaking. He also had a unique sense of humor, often cracking jokes which (most of the time) made everyone around him laugh until tears.
Summer was his favorite season. He loved to spend time out at his “cabin”, mowing, carving, and staining walking sticks, and basking in the sun. While he was a hard working “mans-man”, Gene also knew how to relax by cracking open a beer and kicking up his feet. You wouldn’t find him too far from a cable T.V. where he loved to watched westerns or any other good movies or shows.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Sr. and Leona Pinks; and his wife Linda Pinks.
Gene is survived by his sons, Chris (Marni) Pinks, Scooter (Laura Ringham) Pinks; fiancé, Nancy Huether, and her sons, Chris (Melissa) Huether and Josh (Lindsay) Huether; siblings, Gail (Keith) Fiechtner, Karla Evans, Jeff Pinks, Paul (Carla) Pinks, Janet (Roger) Wood, Mary (Monte) Dockter and David Pinks, and eight grandchildren, Taylor (Cassie), Kaylee (Isaiah), Ben, Ivy, Cora, Olivia, Juliette and Freya.
