Sorry to hear of Gene's passing, just found out today. I graduated from
Cathedral H.S. with Gene in 1955. I've tried to keep up with all my fellow-graduates, but it gets harder as we get older. We had 51 in our
senior class and as far as I can determine, 13 are still alive.
Gene was a superior student in high school and competed with other
top students for scholastic honors. I am familiar, somewhat, with his military career and know that he excelled. My condolences to his wife
and family.

I consider myself to be a fellow SLU graduate and military officer with LTC Rossel. I only wish I had the chance to meet him before his death. He was an amazingly accomplished SLU graduate in military and civilian life. His work with USAF Air Commandos was foundational. He was a typical Billikan in that he took a Jesuit education to the world and used that education to create a tremendous social, spiritual and societal impact far beyond his academic degree. LTC Rossel' book on Air Commandos is an essential addition to any student of the 1940 through 1980 Vietnam conflict. His life is a literal embodiment to the
Jesuit ideal of education to social change and societal benefit. May his memory be for a blessing-----MAJ USAR-Ret) Frank R. Vozak , BSW, MSW LCSW, BCD
