Eugene Sullivan Obituary

Eugene 'Gene' S. Sullivan
Eugene 'Gene' Sullivan, a lifelong resident of Stamford, passed away unexpectedly after a short illness at Stamford Hospital late Saturday, March 30, 2024. He was 63 years old.
Born on October 19, 1960, he was the son of Patricia Slyker Sullivan and the late Eugene Sullivan, Sr. A longtime custodian for Stamford Public Schools, assigned to Newfield School, he was the former owner of Gene Sullivan Landscaping of Stamford. Gene was particularly proud to be a co-owner, along with his son, Charlie, of Sullivan and Son Land Management, a business Charlie has grown beyond imagination.
When he wasn't working, Gene could usually be found at one of three places – Cove Island Marina, cruising the waters of Long Island Sound on his boat, or at 'The Garage" – a special place that hosted countless gatherings over the years, most of which were unscheduled and full of laughter and friendship. Many problems were discussed - usually, though, none were solved.
An accomplished fisherman and formerly a recreational lobsterman, Gene was a reliable resource for all things boat and water-related. He was also a member of the Stamford Shellfish Commission. Gene's circle of friends is a testament to him as a person; if you needed help with anything, no one was more ready to help than Gene.
In addition to his mother and his son Charlie, Gene is survived by Charlie's mother, Jill Lovello; his sister, Anna Stearne and daughter, Christina; his brother-in-law, Dave Lewis and daughters Karen and Stephanie; and his extended family - Duane and Gayle Lovello and their sons Michael and Stephen; Tommy and Susan Iacovacci and their children Matthew, Sam, and Raeanne; and Chrissie and Connie Lovello; and 'Uncle Richie' Lovello. In addition to his father, he is predeceased by his maternal and paternal grandparents, his sister Coleen Lewis, and his sister, Diana Sullivan.
Calling hours will take place on Thursday, April 4, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 5 at 10 a.m. at St. John's RC Church, 1986 Boston Post Rd., Darien. Interment immediately following at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien.
Gene's untimely passing is a reminder that every day is a gift; tomorrow is promised to no one. Please ensure those closest to you know how much they mean to you.

Jesus Christ and his first disciples were Fishermen. Joseph, Jesus' earthly father was a Carpenter. That picture of Gene holding a fish, I will always remember him in that way, lobsters, clamming, trucks, boats, even Vermont and deer hunting. Gene accomplished all he wanted to do and more - so, he passed on to eternity,

As with so many, hearing this news was and is a total shock.Gene is already missed.Taking care of others seemed to me to be his top priority and in my opinion he did a great job. I may often look at our front door or at the ATM vestibule and wait to see him, to no avail. Thankfully, he left many reasons to smile. Heaven is so lucky. Sending peace to Gene's family [Especially Jill, Charlie and Gene's mom] his friends and certainly his fans. Leslie

This is a beautiful tribute to Gene. It´s hard to imagine life without such a big personality such as his. I know that the people closest to him will often feel his presence as life continues. Gene had so many blessings throughout his life none greater than his son Charlie. Our very heart felt condolences to Charlie, Jill and everyone that loved Gene.

I am at a loss for words (very unusual for me).

My thoughts and prayers are for "Little" Gene and to give strength to all if his family during this very difficult time, especially to Charlie who meant so much to Gene.

I am learning that some things never make sense but that there is nothing that can be done to change them.

Gene will always be in our hearts and the many good memories will bring smiles to our faces. We need to concentrate on these.

Sending my love to all.
