Eugene Westphal Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Marnocha Funeral Home from May 18 to May 19, 2022.
Eugene "Gene" John Westphal, 77, Krakow, passed away most peacefully in the arms of his family on Sunday, May 15, 2022. Gene was the only son born to John and Mary (Wisniewski) Westphal on June 1, 1944.

Gene married his high school sweetheart, Virginia Van Vonderen, on November 14, 1964. Together they raised a family of four children. Gene loved to hunt, fish, do crossword puzzles, and was an avid gardener, starting the plant from a seed. Most of all, he enjoyed fixing things to the delight of his family and friends.

Gene worked as a machinist for Hudson Sharp, FMC, Sasib, and Campbell Wrapper Corp. He traveled as a field service engineer later on in his career, eventually retiring in December of 2011 after 46 years of service.

Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Virginia; his four children: Allen Westphal, Millbank SD, Patti (Fred) Hendzel, Pulaski, Tina (Shawn) Llewellyn, Green Bay, and John (Sharon) Westphal, Wrightstown; seven grandchildren: Elizabeth (Craig) Enderby, Wrightstown, Zach (Jordyn) Hendzel, Green Bay, Brett (Autumn) Hendzel, Green Bay, Lauren (Jack) Hendzel, Green Bay, Ryan (Dee Gerlikowski, Kaylee (Connor) Llewellyn, Travis Westphal, and Kayla (Jaden) Westphal ; and his great-grandchildren: Jordan, Malyah, Sawyer, Addison Enderby and princess Hendzel expected in July. He is further survived by his sisters: Lucille Majeski, Green Bay and Alice (Bob) Dudek, Krakow; and his brothers-in-law: David Liebergen, Janesville and Clarence (Debbie) Van Vonderen, Antigo.

In addition to his parents, John and Mary Westphal, he was preceded in death by his in-laws, Fred and Rose Van Vonderen; a sister, Joan Liebergen; two brothers-in-law: Alvin Majeski and John Van Vonderen; a special nephew, Jeff Dudek, and a special uncle, Harry Van Vonderen.

Per Gene's wishes, no formal services will be held. A private celebration is being planned for family and close friends.

The family wishes to thank the awesome staff at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay and the Unity Hospice Team for their tender care and support.
