EUNICE T. DERRICK Westminster – Eunice Martha Thrift Derrick, 85, wife of the late Charles Edwin Derrick, of 320 West Pinewood Dr. and Morningside Assisted Living in Seneca, died Monday, April 6, 2009 at Cottingham House. A native of Oconee County, she was born in Long Creek to the late Julius Burman and Maude Hamby Thrift. Mrs. Derrick was a graduate of Mars Hill in Ashville, NC and Piedmont College in Demorest, GA. She was a retired teacher and principal in Oconee County Schools and also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church where she was very active as a Sunday School Teacher and WMU Director. Mrs. Derrick was also a member of the Westminster Garden Club. Survivors include son Larry Derrick and wife Betty Ann of Greenwood, grandchildren Wendy Gaskins, husband Greg and their children Austin, Greyson and Walker of West Columbia, SC; Jill Parker, husband Rich and their children Richard and Lauren of Lexington, SC. Step-grandchildren Matt Dorman, wife Michelle and their children Hana and Max of Charleston, SC; Erin Whittle, husband Allen and their daughter Bella Brees of Roanoke, VA. She is also survived by brothers Roscoe Thrift and wife Sharon of Westminster, Sam Thrift and wife JoEllen of Seneca, Tom Thrift and wife Patsy of Seneca and Glenn Thrift and wife Lillian of Westminster, and sister Helen Hare of Seneca. In addition to her husband and parents, brothers Wayne and Ralph Thrift and sisters Lois Thrift and Eula Smith precede her in death. Mrs. Derrick was very active in her community, church and family. She touched many lives and will be missed by her many friends and family whom she loved dearly. Funeral services will be 2 pm, Thursday, April 9, 2009 in the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Oconee Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 6-8 pm, Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials in Mrs. Derrick's memory to OMH Hospice of the Foothills, Attn: Foundation Office, 298 Memorial Drive, Seneca, SC 29672 or to Holly Springs Baptist Church, 125 Reese Cobb Rd., Westminster, SC 29693.
