Eva Leaf Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jansen Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Mar. 31, 2026.
Eva Leaf, a beacon of love and generosity, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, in Otter Lake, Michigan, at the age of 89. Born on September 9, 1936, in Alt.Lietzegöricke, Germany, Eva's journey led her from the cobblestone streets of Berlin to the heart of Michigan, where she built a life marked by dedication to her family and community.

Eva's early years in Berlin instilled in her a strong sense of resilience and a deep appreciation for her German heritage. At the age of 20, she embraced a new beginning in Michigan and later became a proud U.S. citizen. Her work ethic shone through her years of service at Beaumont Hospital, where she was a key punch operator and contributed to the vital records department, handling birth certificates with care and precision.

Eva enjoyed crafting beautiful crochet pieces, from stuffed animals to warm mittens, sweaters, and scarves, each stitch a testament to her loving nature. Her handiwork was more than a hobby; it was a way sharing her talents with those she cherished.

Family was the cornerstone of Eva's life. She is survived by her adoring children, Jennifer Leaf-Mobley (Dave Mobley), George Leaf, and John E. (Dawne) Leaf; her brother, Dieter Bode; and her beloved grandchildren, Connor, Ethan, Eric, and Ellie. Her memory will also be treasured by several nieces and nephews. Eva was preceded in death by her devoted husband, John William Leaf, her parents, Erich and Else (Dewitz) Bode, and her sister, Bärbel.

Known among her neighbors as a member of the "odds & ends," Eva cherished the camaraderie and joy of their outings together. Eva's legacy is one of unwavering love, kindness, and generosity, traits that were the fabric of her very being.

Eva Leaf's life was a tapestry woven with the threads of hard work, smart decisions, and caring gestures. Her story is one of a journey from the heart of Germany to the heart of her family in Michigan, a narrative marked by the love she gave and the love she received.
