Eva Karin Walker

MARQUETTE, MI - Eva Walker - devoted mother, loyal friend, tireless hiker, square dancer extraordinaire, outstanding Bridge player, dog lover, and perhaps the most efficient postmaster Northern Michigan has ever seen - passed away peacefully on October 15, 2025, at the age of 89.
Born in Stockholm, Sweden, she emigrated to the U.S. in 1964 after marrying Glen P. Bauer. Eva served as a USPS postmaster in Wolverine, Michigan for many years, retiring to care for her second husband, Richard A. Walker. Outliving both Glen and Richard was perhaps her quiet Swedish way of having the last word.
Eva is survived by her daughters - Suzanne (Matthew) Williams of Marquette, MI, and Karin (Stuart) Hemstock of Adamsville, TN. She leaves behind three grandchildren who made her immensely proud: Erik Redman of Philadelphia, PA, Scott Redman of Camas, WA, and Sam Williams of Chandler, AZ. She is also survived by her Bridge partner and good friend, John Hastie of St. Ignace, MI.
In her later years, Eva lived at Brookridge Heights Memory Care in Marquette, where she charmed the staff and kept her stride (and sense of humor) for as long as she could. There will be no service; but if you would like to honor Eva, please go for a walk outside (bonus points if you take a dog) or make a contribution to the Cheboygan County Humane Society.
