"Son of the Morning Star"...so thorough, so concise, it reads as if written by an eye-witness war correspondent. A fascinating work.

I'm late to the party, but I'm a longtime fan of his work. I entertained ideas of paying him a visit in NM. Now I wished I would have tried.

Have a great trip.

Mr. Connell seemed like a person who lived his life to the fullest, Now he's asleep hoping to hear the words Lazarus heard when Jesus resurrected him saying "Lazarus come out" meaning from the grave. So for now rest in peace.

evan old friend. sorry about this god talk. did i/we miss something? i owned the no name in sausalito from 1960-74. you were one of kind. a reluctant chess partner, good neighbor on bulkley, scotch drinker, close with eve and gale and my playmate. loved by everyone. remember the trip to buy pre-columbian art? old vw and very rarely...that smile. and your tip about the lighting at the no name was invaluable and you never got credit. god talk...indeed. stay in touch.

Evan has been a very important part of my life. After meeting Evan in the seventies, my life was enriched through reading his works plus reading books written by authors he recommended. Evan was kind, generous, a perfect gentleman, a keen listener, polite, and brilliant.
My thoughts are with his family at this very sad time.

When I read Mr. Bridge and Mrs. Bridge, I was transported back to the sights, sounds, and even smells, of the Kansas City country club world they lived in. My late literary colleague, Gerald Shapiro, and I agreed we shared an indelible mark from our common experience of being KC natives and alumni of Southwest High and University of Kansas. Evan Connell captured part of that lasting essence and shared it brilliantly with the rest of the world. I am forever grateful.
