Evangeline “Vangie” Rubi-Nephew, age 72, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away peacefully in her home on February 13, 2026 surrounded by her family.
She was a devoted wife, mother, sister and aunt. Born on November 3, 1953, Vangie grew up in Martinez town. She was an ironworker in Prewitt, New Mexico at a young age and later worked in transit as a bus driver.
Vangie loved playing softball and played on a local softball team for many years. She was also on a bowling team and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. She is survived by her daughter, Darlene Acosta and her husband Johnny; son, Mark Nephew; granddaughter, Ariana Acosta; brother, Edward “Wado” Rubi and wife (Henrietta/deceased); brother Diego Rubi and wife (Maxine/deceased). She also had many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Merv Nephew; her parents, Joe Ralph and Nora Rubi; her sister, Dowie Lujan and husband, Henry; brothers, Pat Rubi, David Rubi and Ralph “Trappie” Rubi Jr. Service announcements will follow and will be shared soon.
