Evangeline “Vangie” C. (Horning) Murschel, 86, passed away on July 9, 2025.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 19, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 N 4th St., Bismarck. Family will begin greeting guests one hour prior to the service. To view the service livestream, click this link Trinity Lutheran - Bismarck - YouTube
Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Vangie was born in Hazen, ND on April 1, 1939, to Emil and Esther (Morast) Horning. She attended 1st grade at Zap School, 2nd through 8th grade at Klause Country School, and 9th grade through graduation at Zap School.
On June 21st, 1957, she married her sweetheart, Dale Murschel in Zap, ND. They did move a few times through their life journey, including to Wallace, ID; Zap, ND; Carlyle, MT; Halliday, ND; Fairview, MT; Bismarck, ND; then to Golva, ND; before returning back to Bismarck, ND. In February of 2024, they moved into Edgewood of Mandan, ND.
Vangie was a very busy lady. She worked in bookkeeping and helped clean offices at the various Grain Elevators Dale managed. The rest of her time was spent chasing after four boys and the upkeep of the home. She also worked the cafeteria in a school and in a nursing home at different times. In 1990, she received her Secretarial Degree from Bismarck Interstate Business College.
Vangie was a great cook/baker. Loved doing crafts, gardening and taking care of the yard. Spending time with their beloved dog CoaCoa and feeding a feral cat she named, Disco. She enjoyed going to Church and participating in the Church Women’s groups. She love to watch and listen to her boys playing music in various bands, dancing with Dale, and following her boys and grandkids to various activities.
Some of her favorite past times were playing cards, scrabble, crosswords puzzles, reading, watching animal videos, history, and tours of the world. Her favorite trips were to Branson, MO and to west coast to visit family.
Vangie is survived by her four boys: Dale Jr. (Roxi) Gillette, WY; Douglas (Bernie) Bismarck, ND; DeLon (Theresa) Sidney, MT; Dwight (Michelle) Williston, ND; sister, Diana (Ron) Staiger, Bismarck; brothers, Donald (Sharon) Horning, Zap; Terrance (Mary) Horning, Mandan; Stanley (Jane) Horning, Zap; sister-in-law, Rachel Horning, Zap; 13 grandchildren, Douglas Jr., Nicole, Matthew, McKale, Marcus, Jesse, Dalles, LaKenneth, Aliah, Genesis; 10 great-grandchildren, Paige, Shelby, Joseph, Max, Keira, Odin, Jared, Katrina, Sophia, Dakota, Bailee, Graci, Jace; one great-great-grandchild, Greyson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale of 67 years; granddaughter, Melinda: parents, Emil and Esther Horning; and brother, Steven Horning.
