The Bible speaks of "three score and ten" as the measure of a life. By God's grace, Evans Turman, Jr., was blessed beyond that promise, living 82 years filled with love, faith, and devotion. We thank God for smiling upon him and granting us the gift of his presence for so long. Evans Turman, Jr., was born on August 23, 1943, to Evans Turman, Sr. and Nettie Mae Foxx Turman. He was delivered by a midwife i n a small town located in the clay hills of Enon, Alabama. This town is so small that there is only one road in and one road out. Despite its size, Enon, Alabama i s known for its big heart. Evans was the second oldest of eleven children, which included eight girls and three boys. He embraced the big brother role with tenderness and responsibility. As a loving brother, he cared for his siblings with kindness and strength.
Evans received his early education at Enon Elementary and Enon Junior High in Enon, Alabama, and completed high school at Merritt High School in Midway, Alabama. From a young age, Evans enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing football. He had a remarkable green thumb, cultivating gardens that produced bountiful vegetables. Yet his greatest passion was music, especially paying the guitar, which brought joy to him and those around him.
With courage and determination, he relocated to Orlando, Florida where h e launched a remarkable career in 1968 at Sun Bank, now Truist. Over 38 years of dedicated service, he made a significant impact before retiring on September 1, 2003. Driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, Evans founded Turman Pest Control more than 35 years ago, creating a legacy that continues to inspire.
In 1980, Evans married the love of his life, Gracie Tolbert Turman. Together they created a beautiful life filled with joy, cherishing their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Their union defined by unwavering love and devotion, lasted 45 years until God called him home. Evans was a source of inspiration to many, leaving behind a powerful legacy of faith, perseverance, and love. His memory will forever shine in the hearts of his beloved family and friends, and all who knew him were truly blessed.
Evans was preceded in death by his parents, Evans Turman, Sr. and Nettie Mae Turman, as well as, two sisters, Annie Mae Turman and Irene Turman.
