Evaughan Boatwright-Cook

Sunrise: April 30, 1952 – Sunset: October 20, 2025

Evaughan Boatwright-Cook was born on April 30, 1952, in Youngstown, Ohio to Governor and Joan West Boatwright. A true leader, Evaughan lived life her own way marked by sincere kindness, impeccable grace, sensational style and a non-negotiable dedication to uplifting and helping others. She was known for her magnetic spirit, big welcoming smile, contagious laugh and heartfelt hugs. She never met a stranger and made everyone feel welcomed, heard and valued. Known for her quick wittiness and humor she was sure to make you smile and kept everyone around her laughing.

Family was at the center of Evaughan's heart and world and she devoted herself to always being there whenever and for whomever needed her. She celebrated us all each and every day and made us all feel supported, safe and loved. She was known for creating moments of togetherness and love through her soulful meals, heartfelt family fun and fellowship that will always be remembered. Food was indeed one of her love languages and every meal was made with lots of love and plated to perfection. Whether it was a holiday or any given Sunday, we were sure to be filled and full. She was also known to her family and friends alike for her attention to detail in everything that she put her hands on. She took great pride in her gift giving and wrapping style that had to be top notch or nothing at all, it was intentional and thoughtful to the receiver and always elevated with grace. Surely someone here has received 5-7 birthday cards the week of their birthday at some point, it's just how she was.

Always a woman of Faith, Evaughan had an unwavering passion for the love of Christ. She had a deep passion for her church, C-WIT International Ministries, where she faithfully served as a Minister of the Gospel for the last four years under the leadership and mentorship of Pastor Maggie Joy Stanton. During this time, she actively supported the ministry's mission through teaching, outreach and helping to strengthen the church community.

Not one to tell of her good deeds and doing, Evaughan touched countless lives over her lifetime through her hard work, giving, community, involvement, decorating, cooking, caregiving, sacrificing, mothering to all, counseling, supporting, being the difference, cheerleading, sharing, caring, and most importantly, spreading love.

Throughout her life, she worked in many capacities across Ohio, California, and Georgia. An entrepreneur's spirit she proudly owned and operated her very own cleaning company where she brought comfort, care (of course becoming trusted family to each) and a professional shine to homes and offices alike. She catered for countless private dinner parties and events and cooked for many families (no one could resist her dressing and homemade bread). After settling in Georgia, Evaughan dedicated over 20 years to Bonnell Manufacturing Company in Newnan, GA serving in various roles and ultimately concluding her career role there in Administration before retiring.

Evaughan is preceded in death by her mother and father, her sister Gwendolyn and brothers James and Richard Boatwright all of Youngstown, Ohio. She leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved family - her husband Dwayne Cook, daughter La Tishia Boatwright, grandson Corey Boatwright Willard of Atlanta, GA, granddaughters Tianna, Sierra, Makenzie, Maliah, and Naomi Walker, Tamia and Shania Smith, stepdaughters Essence Cook and Ebony Smith, stepson Landon Walker, sisters Deborah Dixon (Aaron Broome) of Forest Park, GA, Marie Hall of Fairburn, GA, brothers Lauschyre Boatwright of Youngstown, OH, and Anthony Boatwright of Decatur, GA. Her brother-in-laws – James Cook (LaTasha Cook) of Lithonia, GA and Mark Cook of Newnan, GA. She also leaves a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins - and a wide circle of beloved friends and loved ones who were blessed to share in her journey, including her Gizmo.

A celebration of Evaughan's life will be held on November 1, 2025 at Murray Brothers Funeral Home, 1199 Utoy Springs Road SW, Atlanta, GA 30331 at 3:00 PM.

Evaughan was one of a kind, tenderly known as "Poochie", "Diva" or "Boaty", her warmth, laughter, and generous spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

"Well done, good and faithful servant. Well done." Matthew 25:23
