Evelyn Legate Christy

Selina Evelyn Legate Christy, 88, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2025, at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis, North Carolina. She had been a resident at the Carriage House at Caremoor in Kannapolis for 3 years. She was born on June 28, 1937, in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky, to the late Pearl Mitchell Legate and Everett Legate. Evelyn grew up in Central City, KY, where she met James Earl Christy Sr. who was serving in the Army. After marrying, they moved to North Carolina and spent 66 devoted years together before his passing. Evelyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She spent her early years caring for her family and later worked many years at Cannon Mills in Kannapolis, NC. Evelyn was an active and faithful member of St. Enoch Lutheran Church in Kannapolis, NC. She is survived by her children, Jim Christy (Lee Ann) of China Grove, NC, and Sherry Cox (Coleman) of Kannapolis, NC; her beloved grandchildren, Allison Egbert (Jack) of Concord, NC, Sydney Bradford (Matthew) of Kannapolis, NC, and Anna Cox (Zac Delardi) of Charlotte, NC; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Jackson and Eva Egbert and Colson and Wyatt Bradford. She is also survived by her sisters Laquita Blair of Louisville, KY, Dean Nance of Natchez, MS, Janis Everhart of Central City, KY, sister-in-law Anita Legate of Evansville, IN., She was preceded in death by her husband, James Earl Christy Sr., and her brothers, Benton and Mitch Legate. A private graveside service will be held at St. Enoch Lutheran Church on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., officiated by Pastor John Futterer of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Caremoor Retirement Center, Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County and Tucker Hospice House for the compassionate care that they provided over the past three years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Atrium Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081 in memory of Evelyn.
