Evelyn D. Cornelio, 100, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 14, 2025 at her home. She was the loving wife of the late Dr. Francis Joseph Cornelio for 55 wonderful years. Born July 12, 1925 in Canaan; the daughter of the late Emil and Mary (Passini) Dorizzi.
Evelyn was a Registered Nurse prior to marrying her husband. She often volunteered for the American Red Cross blood drives and the Auxiliary For Community Health Thrift Shop in Winsted. She would wash, iron, price and tag items that were donated. She was a very active communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Winsted.
She loved sewing, knitting and considered herself a professional at tag sales and hunting for antiques.
She is survived by two daughters, Teresa "Terry" Tower and husband James of MA and Frances English and her husband Nels of Southbury; five grandchildren, Joshua and his wife Jennifer, Daniel and wife Emily, Scott and wife Holly, Cristie, Kyle and wife Aisling; 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and a nephew. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Mary and Alice.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025 at St. Joseph Church at 11 AM. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Winsted. There are no calling hours. Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 922 Main Street, Winsted, is in charge of arrangements. Visit an online guestbook at montano-shea.com.
