June 17, 1930 – December 2, 2026 Age 95
Evelyn was born in Elmira, New York, where she was raised by her Aunt Rose and Uncle John Rehwinkle. She attended St. Mary's School and grew up with a strong sense of family, faith, and service. While
Cecil "Deak" Deakins was stationed in New York with the U.S. Air Force, the two met and quickly formed a lifelong bond. They were married in June of 1953 and spent more than six decades building a family and moving wherever service to their country took them.
As a devoted mother, Evelyn raised two boys while the family lived in Texas, Washington State, Las Vegas, the Philippines, and nally Dover, Delaware, where Cecil retired from the Air Force and the family made their permanent home.
Evelyn dedicated her life to serving her community. She spent more than 30 years with Family Services and another 10+ years with the Red Cross. Lynn volunteered as a CASA advocate with Delaware's Division of Family Services, tirelessly supporting children in need. Perhaps most notably, she devoted over thirty ve years to Little League Baseball in Delaware as a District Administrator. Her extraordinary leadership earned her the distinction of becoming the rst woman ever inducted into the Delaware Baseball Hall of Fame, a legacy of which she was immensely proud.
Evelyn had a lifelong love of dogs, and in her later years, there was rarely a moment when a furry friend wasn't curled comfortably in her lap. She was deeply proud of her four grandchildren (Dawn, Kristina, Matthew, and Jon-David) and delighted in watching her twelve great-grandchildren grow.
She was predeceased by her husband, Cecil (Deak), in 2021, and by her son Dennis in 2012. She is survived by her son John and his wife Terri, her four grandchildren, and her twelve great-grandchildren.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the community of Westminster Village, where Evelyn made her home for the last three years and received such compassionate care.
A viewing will occur at Torbert Funeral Chapel South located at 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10) Dover, DE from 9:30am to 10:30am December 17, 2025; with a short prayer service at 10:30. Interment will be at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, at 1pm
