Evelyn Mary Galvin (Cummings) (Swenson) passed away peacefully on November 30, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on April 16, 1935, she was the beloved daughter of the late Leonard and Gladys Cummings.
Evelyn grew up in the Point of Pines in Revere, Massachusetts which started her love of the ocean as she lived just one block away. Evelyn had a love of cooking, gardening and feeding her cherished birds. Evelyn had a talent for decorating and left all things beautiful in her home. She always loved the finer things in life and had a wonderful sense of humor.
From an early age, Evelyn's life was rooted in faith, purpose, and service to others. At just 18, she found her calling in the sisterhood of the Daughters of Mary of the Immaculate Conception in New Britain, CT, dedicating herself to religious life for the next 15 years. During her time in the convent, Evelyn earned her teaching degree and shared her gifts with the children of Our Lady of Rose Hill Orphanage, where her quiet compassion and steady guidance touched countless young lives.
Evelyn also pursued her nursing degree while in the convent, embodying her lifelong commitment to caring for others. She went on to serve at Sancta Maria Hospital in Cambridge, where she was known for her kindness, diligence, and unwavering empathy toward her patients. Evelyn left the convent at age 33 due to her true calling to become a wife and mother. At age 35, she married her late husband Daniel L. Swenson in which they welcomed two children. Evelyn also worked at the Bedford VA Hospital in Bedford, MA providing care for Alzheimer's and Dementia patients; she was a steadfast caretaker.
In 1993, Evelyn met the love of her life, the late Daniel H. Galvin. From that day forward, they shared a love of dancing and traveling. Their love was unlike any other. Evelyn's love of family always took priority. In the last years of her life, her late dog Lucy was her best friend.
She was predeceased by her late husband, Daniel L. Swenson and Daniel H. Galvin. Evelyn was the precious mother of Cara (Swenson) Henry and her husband Kevin of Hanover, Eric Swenson and his partner Jennifer Giampapa of Worcester, Chereen Hogan and her husband Frank of Saugus, Dan Galvin and his late wife Ann of Saugus, Catherine Doucette and her husband William of Ponte Vedra, Florida, Peter Galvin, Maura Jones and her husband Gregg of Waukon, Iowa. Sister of the late Leonard Cummings and the late Carol Mazza. Evelyn was the proud grandmother "Meah", of Morgan and Olivia Henry and Sam Swenson and 10 additional grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Her journey through education, nursing, and religious life reflected the core of who Evelyn was-selfless, gentle, generous, brave and deeply devoted to helping those around her. Above all, family was number one.
In honor of Evelyn, you are welcome to wear a shade of purple or aqua!
