Evelyn Godbout Obituary

Evelyn Godbout
Evelyn Godbout, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and beloved member of the Ridgefield community, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2025, at Maplewood at Stony Hill in Bethel, CT. She was 90 years old.
Born and raised in Hartford, Connecticut, Evelyn later moved to Ridgefield in 1962-a town she quickly fell in love with and would call home for more than 63 years.
It was in Connecticut that Evelyn met the love of her life, Richard "Dick" Godbout, at a local dance. They married a year and a half later and together built a beautiful life, raising five children: Kimberly, Richard, Steven, Don, and Michelle. Evelyn was also a proud grandmother to nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all of whom lived nearby and were a constant source of joy in her life.
Known affectionately as "Chicken" by friends and family, Evelyn's greatest passion was her family. A compassionate and selfless mother, she extended her love well beyond her own children. With her warm, generous, kind, and forgiving soul, Evelyn became a second mother to her children's friends, offering peace, safety, and unconditional comfort. She welcomed everyone with open arms and was a gentle soul whose presence lifted others. Her infectious laugh and ever-present smile were hallmarks of her joyful spirit.
In 1977, Evelyn began working at Ridgefield High School in the attendance office. She later became the data clerk to Vice Principal Paul Marczewski, a role she held until her retirement in 2000. Loved by both colleagues and students, Evelyn's warmth and humor made her a favorite presence at the school, and in 1988 she was voted "Most Popular Faculty Member."
A woman of strong faith, Evelyn was a faithful parishioner of St. Elizabeth Seton Church. She was also an active volunteer in the Ridgefield community, always finding ways to give her time and compassion to others. In her later years, Evelyn enjoyed the friendships she made as a member of the Tea Club at Founders Hall, where she cherished gathering with friends and sharing stories over tea.
Evelyn is survived by her five children, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, faith, and deep community spirit that will be cherished by all who knew her.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, October 3, 2025 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Elizabeth Seton Church; 520 Ridgebury Road, Ridgefield. Interment will take place privately. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Ridgefield Founder's Hall.
