Evelyn Lewis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sarah L. Carter's Funeral Home - Northside on Mar. 7, 2026.
Evelyn Deloris Robinson Lewis was born on October 28, 1940, in Jacksonville, Florida, to the late Johnnie Robinson and Mattie Lee Joyner Robinson. She was educated in the Duval County Public School System and proudly graduated from Matthew William Gilbert High School, Class of 1959. She was a dedicated member of Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church for over 30 years.

Professionally, Evelyn built a fulfilling and impactful career, serving at St. Vincent's Hospital, Alvin Gross Optometry, and American Heritage Insurance Company. From 2009 until 2018, she served as a private caregiver. Her patience, kindness, and willingness to help others left a positive impact on all who knew her. Her faith was a constant source of strength. She loved listening to the Word of God and found great peace in her relationship with the Lord.

In her quiet moments, Evelyn enjoyed cooking, word search puzzles, sewing, and arts and crafts. These talents reflected her thoughtful nature and love for creativity. Above all, Evelyn cherished her family. She was a devoted wife and mother who shared a deep bond with each of her children. Her love was constant and her support unwavering.

Her legacy of love, compassion, and resilience lives on through her husband of fifty-five years, William P. Lewis, Sr.; her daughters, Judy Gay and Ingrid Sherles; sons, Darrell Lewis, Rodney Lewis (Renita), and William P. Lewis II (Sandra); her aunt, Patsy Tiller; and her many adored grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
