Obituary published on Legacy.com by Anders-Detweiler Funeral Home & Crematory - Souderton on Nov. 5, 2025.
Evelyn Alderfer Meyers was born September 4, 1932, to Arthur Landis Alderfer and Anna Keller Alderfer in Dublin, PA. Evelyn's life was filled with faith, work and love demonstrated as a wife, mother of eight, grandmother of 26, great-grandmother of 40, Blooming Glen Mennonite church and choir member, Care and Share volunteer and friend to many.
Evelyn graduated from Hilltown High School in 1949 and began working as a secretary and hosiery mill employee. In 1951, she married the love of her life, Paul Wismer Meyers, whom she had met through the Voices of Youth Choir. Evelyn and Paul were married for 52 years, residing in Dublin, Lansdale and finally in Souderton.
Between 1952 and 1968, Evelyn and Paul welcomed eight children, whom Evelyn cared for full time, until 1982 when she began working part-time as a baker at North Penn High School. While Evelyn enjoyed being a mother and caring for her children, raised as a farm girl, she looked forward to working outside in the garden or on the lawn and flower beds. Even in her late 80's, Evelyn would often be seen outside picking up sticks after a strong wind or pulling weeds from the flower beds. She also missed being on the farm and eagerly volunteered to assist her nephew when new chicks arrived at his chicken farm.
Following the death of their eldest daughter, Gail, Evelyn and Paul decided to have a monthly, family Sunday dinner after church. Evelyn rose early those Sundays to peel potatoes and prepare the roasts to serve an average of forty children, grandchildren and family friends. The Sunday dinner was blessed with the Meyers family singing "The Lord's Prayer" or another favorite as they had done so many times growing up.
As a supportive wife, Evelyn was the "woman behind the scenes" in Paul's building and real estate businesses. When Paul opened his own real estate office, Evelyn secured her real estate license to better support him and it benefited her as the owner following his death.
Traveling was an exciting change of pace for Evelyn, and she enjoyed numerous trips by car, RV, air and boat traveling across the US, to the Bahamas, Hawaii, New Zealand, Europe, Alaska, Paraguay and Italy.
As a breast cancer survivor following completion of chemo and radiation treatments in August 2002, Evelyn, along with daughters and granddaughters, hiked to the top of Mt. Crested Butte, CO, 12,162 feet. In 2007, she repeated this adventure along with 34 members of her family.
Evelyn was a committed walker and was determined to achieve 10,000 steps per day, often achieving this goal before 9 AM. Regular visitors of Godshall Park in Souderton would see Evelyn walking the trail daily and now can enjoy a memorial bench dedicated to her for her 87th birthday.
Evelyn always had a song on her lips and was forever humming a tune as she worked. Singing as a couple and as a family was a great joy for Evelyn and Paul and the words of her favorite hymns were easily recalled even when other words were lost.
After walking "humbly with God" for 93 years, Evelyn joined the Heavenly choir of angels on November 4, 2025, and is once again rejoicing with her husband, Paul and daughter, Gail, in the home that her Lord and Savior promised.
Her family will greatly miss her immediate smile, her faithful prayers and unconditional love for all of them.
