Evelyn G. Montroy, age 71, of Erie, passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, October 11, 2025, with her loving husband by her side. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, on April 11, 1954, to the late Glenn and Edna Smith.
Evelyn lived a life full of music, love, and faith. A gifted singer with a voice that could brighten any room, she shared her passion for music alongside her husband, Dennis, in their bands Black Diamond and Heavens Gate. Together, they filled the Erie area with their beautiful harmonies, performing 50's, 60's, and Christian music that touched countless hearts. They were proud to share their talent at many community events, including We Love Erie Days, where their performances brought smiles and inspiration to all who listened. Music was her joy and her gift to the world.
She also worked for many years in retail, where her friendly smile and caring nature made everyone feel welcome. But her heart truly belonged at home, where she poured her love into her family. Evelyn's happiest moments were the simple ones - family dinners, laughter around the table, and time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her home was her haven, and everyone who entered felt her warmth and kindness.
Evelyn leaves behind her devoted husband of 52 years, Dennis Montroy; her four children, Pearl Graham (Michael), Lissa Jones (Devonte), Kelly Stanton (Timothy), and Dennis Montroy, Jr. (Preeya); and her beloved grandchildren, Andrea (Jared), Jessica (Scott), Sarah, Shenika, Matt (Brittney), Katelynn (Johnathan), Scott, Jeremias III, Taylor, Kalib, Trenton, Isiah, Addilay, Aunistee, Justice, Tye, Trista, Cecilia, Noah, Elijah, and Ezra. She was also blessed with 25 great-grandchildren and one on the way, each of whom brought her endless joy and pride.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law, Margaret and Harold Montroy; her brother-in-law, Bruce Montroy; her sister-in-law, Margaret "Peggy" Montroy; and her beloved grandson, Akao "Bubba" Thompson, who now welcome her with open arms in Heaven.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life at the Dusckas Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 2607 Buffalo Rd., on Thursday, October 16th. Calling hours will be from 3 pm until the time of the service at 6 pm, officiated by Bishop Patrick Lyons of Second Baptist Church.
Evelyn's memory will forever live in the hearts of those she loved and in every song she ever sang.
Memorial contributions may be made to her family through the funeral home. Condolences can be shared at www.dusckasfuneralhomes.com
