Evelyn Ruth Smith

Mrs. Evelyn Ruth (Bowman) Smith, age 83, of Patriot, Indiana, entered this life on May 3, 1942 in Muncie, Indiana. She was the daughter of the late Frederick and Lillian Seralda (King) Bowman. She was raised in Muncie, Indiana and was a 1960 graduate of the Harrison Township High School. Evelyn was united in marriage on November 20, 1960 to Francis DeWayne Smith in Delaware County, Indiana. Evelyn and Francis shared 61 years of marriage together and were blessed with a daughter, Susan and a son, Steven. Evelyn was a former housekeeper proudly serving families in Patriot, Indiana and Mason, Ohio. She also enjoyed selling Avon and spent nine years driving a school bus for Delaware and Henry County, Indiana school corporations. She was a member of Eastern Star Chapter No.116 of New Castle, Indiana since 1965. She was also a member of the Corinth Congregational Christian Church in Delaware County, Indiana. Evelyn and Francis made their home in Patriot, Indiana, where they resided since 1986. Evelyn loved flowers and found great joy in gardening and reading. Evelyn passed away with her loving family by her side at 1:53 a.m., Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at her residence.
Evelyn will be missed by her daughter, Susan E. Smith of Patriot, IN; her son, Steven D. Smith of Vevay, IN; her grandson, Derek Smith; her granddaughter, Lauren Faulkner and her husband, Preston; her great-granddaughter, Presli Faulkner; her sister-in-law, Susan Bowman of Phoenix, AZ; and her several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, Frederick Bowman; her mother, Lillian Seralda (King) Bowman; her husband, Francis DeWayne Smith; her brothers, Earl F. Bowman, Sr. and Marshall Eugene Bowman; her sister, Norma Jean Swartz; her father-in-law, Achson Meredith Smith; her mother-in-law, Mable Florence (Pursifull) Smith; her sisters-in-law, Betty Lou (Weekley) Bowman and Guenivere Joan (Smith) Chappell; her brothers-in-law, Ray Irwin Swartz, Jr. and Jackie Leon Smith, Sr.; and her nephews, Jackie Leon Smith, Jr., Jerry Ray Smith, Dale Kenneth Chappell, and David Lynn Swartz.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 12, 2025, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 12, 2025, by Pastor Joe Lamson, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.
Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
