Death Notice

Evelyn Maxine Taylor

1923 - 2023

After years of saying that she never intended to be an old lady, Evelyn Maxine (Hoyt) Taylor is now
celebrating in heaven at the age of 99. It's unbelievable that someone so small could make such a big
impact on the lives around her.
Affectionately called Maxine, Aunt Mac, and Cookie, she was born in Hammond, IL on October 4, 1923
to parents Mable and Jedediah Hoyt. Maxine was legendary for her homemade noodles and chocolate
chip cookies (where she got the nickname, Cookie). Maxine was a 32-year colon cancer survivor, and she
was also a record blood donor for American Red Cross. Maxine was a member St. Paul's United
Methodist Church.
Maxine and Glen were married on October 23, 1942, in St. Charles, IL, and they were together for 63
years. They met as children at Brush College Elementary, and they successfully raised four daughters.
Maxine was a jack of all trades - she was a pen pal, she was an active fan of Kreckles and McDonalds, she
was a prayer warrior, and she was a woman of deep faith. Cookie always wanted to play games with her
treasured grand- and great-grandchildren. Cookie helped everyone. She never forgot to send a card for
a birthday, anniversary, or sympathy. She never thought she did enough, but we hope that she now
knows that she went above and beyond.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, her seven siblings, her husband Glen R. "Chief" Taylor,
two sons-in-law, Clifford Faber and William Haupt, and grandson Kellan Taylor Knop.
Maxine is survived by her four daughters, Carol Haupt, Janice McElhone (husband Pat McElhone), Diane Faber (partner Jimmie Maiden), and Donna Knop (husband Kevin Knop).
Maxine is also survived by her grandchildren Shawn (Joe) O'Brien, Andrea (Scott) Knowles, Julie McElhone
(Billy Schnobrich), Brad (April) Haupt, Brian (Kris) Haupt, Patrick (Sarah) McElhone, Sarah (Damian) Jones, Matt Faber, and Mackenzie (Jared) Schlicht and her great-grandchildren Courtney (Michael) Roland, Devin Haupt, Dylan Haupt, Megan Haupt, Alexa Jones, Gillian (Austin) Welker, Mack Jones, Janyia Ricks, Maguire Knowles, Callaghan Knowles, Lola McElhone, Addison McElhone, namesake Evelyn James Schlicht, and Sullivan Kellan Schlicht. Maxine also had one great-great grandchild, MJ Roland.
She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including special niece Debbie Strong and dear friend Terry Stewart.
Cookie set the bar high on how to live a great life. She will be greatly missed by all of those in her life, and we will continue to keep her memory alive.
A service to celebrate Maxine's life will be held at 12:00 Noon; Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at Dawson & Wikoff North Chapel. The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday morning until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in LaPlace Cemetery, LaPlace, IL. Memorials may be made in her memory c/o God's Shelter of Love.
