Evelyn Roberta Williams, whose life spanned nearly a century filled with love, dedication, and service, passed away on July 9, 2025, at Twin Pines in Kirksville, Missouri. Born on August 1, 1927, in the Pure Air Community, Evelyn was a beacon of warmth and strength to all who knew her.
Evelyn’s academic journey began at Ringo Point school, where she attended through the eighth grade. She later graduated from Novinger High School in 1945, where the seeds of her aspirations were sewn. Following her education, she embarked on a fulfilling career, initially working at McClellan Dime Store for four months before moving on to Citizens National Bank. It was here that she discovered her professional calling as a teller, a role she cherished until she made the heartfelt decision to pause her career in 1951 to raise a family. In 1960, Evelyn returned to the banking world, witnessing the evolution of Citizens National Bank to Commerce Bank and eventually First National Bank of Kirksville and Bank Midwest, where she dedicated herself until her retirement on September 21, 1991.
Evelyn treasured her role as a devoted wife, marrying her high school sweetheart, Perry Williams, on January 19, 1947. Her family was her pride and joy, and she leaves behind a legacy of love through her son, Steven (Barbara) Williams, and her daughter, Connie (Jim) Twaddle. Her spirit lives on in her grandchildren, Blair (Jessica) and Beau (fiancé Rachel) Twaddle, Brett and Brandon Williams, and her great-grandchildren, Madison, Bryce, and Gavin Twaddle. Each family member carries a piece of Evelyn’s kind-hearted soul, and they will forever remember her nurturing presence and generous spirit.
In addition to her family, Evelyn held her community close to her heart. She was a proud member of the First Methodist Church in Kirksville and took active roles in various local organizations, including the Business Professional Women’s Club and serving as a community leader for the Tip Top 4-H Club, the Peppy Pals Extension Club, and the Bunco Club. Through these avenues, she shared her passions and talents, particularly her love for stitching, quilting, puzzles, reading, growing flowers, cooking, and collecting recipes, all of which were expressions of her artistic soul.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Floyd Hoerrmann; another brother, Orville Hoerrmann; and two sisters, Vernice Aileen and Irma Martin. They, along with countless others, surely welcomed her with open arms as she embraced her eternal rest.
Evelyn Roberta Williams will be remembered not just for the roles she fulfilled but for the profound touches she left on the lives she encountered. The love she shared and the memories she created will be cherished forever. She will be honored during visitation on July 18, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Playle-Rimer-Millard Family Funeral Chapel in Kirksville, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM. As we gather to celebrate her life, we hold close to our hearts the lessons she imparted and the love she generously bestowed upon us all.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Kirksville.
