Everette Jene Elder, 93, of Oak Hill, WV passed away peacefully on Friday, December 15th at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV.
Everette was an honored veteran of the United States Army who served in Korea. As a member of the greatest generation, he made three vowels in his lifetime: To serve and protect his country, to be a loyal servant to his God, and to be a loving and faithful husband to his wife of 65 years, Betty Maxine, and his family. He honored all three.
Everette worked hard as a miner, both deep mines and strips for many years, and worked even harder as a retiree. His hands were adapt at both work and play, and there wasn’t much they could not accomplish, when his mind was set to it. Whether he was gardening and growing his famous tomatoes, or toiling on fixing anything mechanical, he was talented and determined to complete whatever he started. He was a big fan of card games, and delighted in winning, and even more so in making sure that you knew he was the champion.
Everette is survived by three daughters, 8 grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. He is survived by one brother as well, Butch Elder. He was a beloved son, father, husband and grandfather, and a friend to anyone in need.
The world is a darker place without him, but heaven shines brighter.
