Everlena Scott Stitt peacefully entered eternal rest on March 13, 2026. She was born on July 20, 1938, in Dorseyville, Louisiana, to the late Henry James Scott and Josephine Green Scott. As the eldest daughter of ten children, Everlena was a guiding presence in her family, known for her deep faith, warm spirit, and unwavering devotion to those she loved.
At an early age, Everlena was baptized at St. John the Baptist Church in Dorseyville, Louisiana, under the leadership of the late Reverend Joseph H. Dandridge, where she later served as a youth ministry leader. She received her early education in Iberville Parish and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Grambling State University. Everlena dedicated many years to shaping young minds as an elementary school teacher in both Louisiana and Florida.
On August 13, 1974, she was united in marriage to the late Robert Stitt, whom she met while vacationing in Florida. Their union was blessed with a daughter, Pamela, joining her beloved older daughter, Vantresa. After retirement from military service, they eventually settled in Shalimar, Florida, where Everlena remained an active member of the Eglin Chapter Center at Eglin Air Force Base. There, she faithfully served as an usher and sang in the choir with the Daughters of Zion.
Everlena found great joy in her faith, family, and community. She loved attending church and often shared stories of the events and fellowship she enjoyed. Though she made her home in Florida, her heart remained closely tied to Louisiana. She treasured every opportunity to return home to spend time with family, especially during the Fourth of July and Thanksgiving. Everlena was also known for her thoughtful gestures, never forgetting a sibling's birthday and ensuring her cards were mailed in time.
An enthusiastic sports fan, Everlena proudly supported her grandsons, nieces, and nephews in their athletic pursuits. Football held a special place in her heart, and she rarely missed watching the Grambling Tigers, LSU Tigers, and the New Orleans Saints.
Everlena lived her life as a faithful servant of God, believing firmly that serving the Lord would one day bring eternal reward. Her Christian journey continued steadfastly until she heard the call to her heavenly home.
She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Vantresa Scott of Annapolis, Maryland, and Pamela Stitt of Tipton, Georgia; two grandsons, Jordan Stickler of Annapolis, Maryland, and Michael Greer of Tipton, Georgia; two stepdaughters, Arlene Stitt of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Tangee Carpenter (Ricky) of Randallstown, Maryland; three step-grandchildren, Marius Hood, Simeon Carpenter, and Zakiah Carpenter; and three step great-grandchildren. She is also survived by six sisters: Gloria Scott Lowery of Detroit, Michigan; Emma Scott Dominique and Diane Scott DeLone of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Jacqueline Scott McCoy and Josie Scott Dominique (Ronald) of Dorseyville, Louisiana; and Debra Scott Williams of Port Allen, Louisiana.
She also leaves two brothers-in-law, Ronald Dominique and Jimmy Stitt of Fayetteville, North Carolina; her godchild, Sharolyn Henderson (MacArthur) of Plaquemine, Louisiana; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
