Evette Wright Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Alford's Mortuary on Jun. 25, 2025.
On November 20th, 1972, Patricia Wright-Blanton was blessed with the birth of a bright light and a heart for the world named Evette Monic Wright, affectionately known by her loved ones as Vetter, Vetter-tet-tet-tet, Mommy, Nanny, and Lavette. Born in the vibrant city of South Bend, IN, USA, Evette was a courageous spirit who imbued the world with her love and warmth. Evette was a devoted Jehovah's Witness, her faith serving as a guiding light throughout her life. Her favorite verse, Psalm 34:18, "Jehovah is close to the brokenhearted; He saves those who are crushed in spirit," remained a source of strength and comfort to her.
Evette, a luminous beacon in her community, was known for her generous heart. For 36 years, she served the South Bend community as the Nanny, taking in children from the neighborhood and loving them as her own. Her funny anecdotes, loyal companionship, and unwavering support earned her the endearing title of "the nanny". Her home was a haven for those she nurtured, and her influence extended far beyond the confines of her residence.
Evette leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience in her children: Brandon (Zykayia) Wright, ReShana Williams, and Patricia Newsom. They are a testament to her strength and love, grateful for the years they had with their mother and committed to keeping her spirit alive. Evette's love also extended to her grandchildren, Cameron Murdock, Ra'Jae Carter-Wright, Jae'Don Montgomery, Jaeleigh Wright, Nikkera Newsom, Brylah Williams, Evelah Newsom, Ja'Karri Newsom-Groves, and Elisha Williams. She will be dearly missed by her mother, Patricia Blanton, her brothers, Reginald and Walter Litzlbauer, her aunts, Theresa Tyler, Georgetta Sims, Cheryl Sims, and her uncles, Anthony Banks SR, Andre Banks, Larry Wright, Joseph Banks, Richard Sims, Darrel Sims, Dwayne Sims, Thomas Sims, Kenneth Sims, Tyrone Sims, and her adopted sisters, Destiny Lipsey, and Erica Williams. She also leaves behind her close friends, Ramona Robertson, and Tracey Robinson-Walker, and her favorite cousin, Sandra Allen.
Evette was preceded in death by her father, Gerald Sims JR, her grandmothers, Ethel Sims and Leola Wright-Carpenter, her cousin, Randy Allen, her aunt, Tonja Sims, and her grandfather, Gerald Sims SR.
Evette's visitation will be held at Alford's Mortuary, 1222 Napier Street, South Bend, Indiana, on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at 10:00 am EDT. We extend an invitation to all who knew and loved Evette to join us in celebrating her life and honoring her memory.
In the spirit of Evette's generous nature, we encourage those who knew her to leave memories and upload photos to her memorial page. Let us remember her bright light, her laughter, her courage, and her boundless love. It is in sharing these stories that we keep her spirit alive, a testament to a life beautifully lived.
