Fannie Bowen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Herschel Thornton Mortuary on Feb. 13, 2026.
With profound love and gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the homegoing of our beloved matriarch, Fannie Christine Bowen, who was born on November 15, 1935, in Notasulga, Alabama, and peacefully transitioned on February 9, 2026. Chris was the second of nine children born to Willie Lue Allen and Kenneth Wagner, Sr.

She was a member of Greater Mount Calvary Baptist Church, where she accepted Christ as a child under the leadership of Rev. Benjamin Joseph Johnson, Sr. She sang in the Bernice Dorsey Johnson Choir for years. She served faithfully on the Usherette Board in her later years.

Affectionately known by many as Chris, Mrs. Bowen was a proud and accomplished businesswoman. She dedicated over 40 years to serving the people all around the Bowen Homes community in Atlanta, GA as a respected and gifted hairstylist. Over the years, her salon chair was more than a place for setting trends and beauty-it was a space of encouragement, laughter, sisterhood, wisdom, and community. She built lasting relationships and left an indelible mark on everyone who sat in her chair.

Later, she married Ed Bowen, Jr., and together they blended a large and loving family until his passing just shy of their 25th wedding anniversary. Their union was rooted in commitment, faith, and perseverance, and she embraced every child and future grandchild as her own. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ed Bowen, Jr. Her siblings: Kenny Wagner, Jr., Clarence Wagner, Curtis Wagner, Johnnie Mae Allen, Harold Allen, and Calvin Allen.

she was also preceded in death by her children, Roland "Ed" Bowen, Donna Jackson Clay, Jerome (Gwendolyn) Jackson, Sheila Jackson Peters, Karen (Charles) Hutchins and Robin Oliver (Harry, Sr.).

She was further preceded in death by her grandchildren, Chase McKenna Bowen, Jamaal Jennings, Brandi Jennings (Abouh), and Gemini (Choquilla) Jackson, Sr. She was also preceded in death by her great-grandchild, Gemini Jackson, Jr. She leaves to cherish her remaining beloved siblings: Joe Louis Wagner (Harriet) & Jacqueline Lewis (Herbert).

She also leaves a loving family, including the children she helped raise and love as her own: Rory Bowen, Sarah Jennings & Eric Bowen (Yashica); eighteen grandchildren, Donnie Glass, Lisa Hodges, Ebony Jackson-Keyton, Tiffany Jackson, Michael Bohannon (Antoinette), Daniel Clay (Melissa), Tavares Jackson, Johnathan Jackson, Antonia Clay, Santana Clay, Karena Clay, Harry Oliver (Xanthene), Peggy Oliver, Nikita Peters, Schleiermacher Peters, Jr, Demetrius Peters, Chasyn Bowen, and Case Bowen.

She leaves a beautiful legacy through her thirty-seven great-grandchildren, Seleica Washington (Marcus Sr.), Jericka Jackson Harden (Vince), Jamellah Jackson, Jayla Jackson, Carma Perry, Taisiya Jackson, Jacoby Jackson, Daniel Clay, Jr., Justin Cornelius Price, Brooklynn Avery Hunt, Nova Tomoya Peters, Jacques Jackson, Erykah Jackson, Jordan Jackson, Zoe Finch (Aaron), Dominick Keyton, Brigitta Burrell, Anari Clay, Nadya Burrell, Jalen Hodges, Daja Hodges, Brandarian Hodges, Brandeion Hodges, Jamaal Coulibaly, Rori Jennings, Kaylin Kackson, Tavares Jackson, Jr., Kamillie Jackson, Kylie Jackson, Amiri Jackson, Kori Jackson, Aaliyah Clay, Malachi Clay, Arianna Clay, Mia Bohannon, Michael Bohannon III, and K'amrie Bohannon.

She was further blessed to see the joy of her sixteen great-great-grandchildren, Journii Perry, Akeem Shabazz, Kristian Thornhill, Kareem Perry, Marcus J. Washington, Jr., Samira Washington, Sanai Washington, Yuri Washington, Mason Washington, Ahmir Harden, Ty'Myiah Butler, Riley Gates, Ethan Jackson, Emoni Jackson, Zy'air Finch and Amora Finch.

A devoted wife, caring mother, nurturing grandmother, a proud great-grandmother and even great-great-grandmother, she will always be remembered for her strength, warm spirit, sharp wit, generosity, and unwavering love for her family and community.

Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched, the family she built, and the love she gave so freely. Amen
