Fatima Marie Avelar

Mrs. Fatima Marie Avelar, age 86, of Chapel Hill, TN, formerly of Pismo Beach, CA, died on Tuesday evening, February 21, 2023 at her residence. She was born in Faial, Azores and was the daughter of the late Manual Da Silva and Valentina Martins Da Silva. Mrs. Avelar was a homemaker after retiring as a seamstress. She was a member of the Catholic/Christian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Antonio S. Avelar who died in 2021, and a nephew, Jorge Fonseca.
Mrs. Avelar was involved and volunteered with the LUSO-American-Portuguese Organization. She enjoyed sewing, raising a garden, reading books especially romance novels, taking long walks, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family and being involved in their activities.
Mrs. Avelar is survived by her son, David (Cindy) Avelar of Chapel Hill, TN, grandson, David (Sheree') Avelar, II of Chapel Hill, TN, granddaughter, Danielle (Steven) Fortner of Spring Hill, TN; 4 great grandchildren, Jenna Grace Fortner, David Anthony Avelar, III, Joshua David Fortner, Paisley Rose Avelar; brother, Mario (Maria Helena ) Da Silva of West Warwick, RI; sister, Fernanda Rinehart of Santa Maria, CA; niece, Nelia (Richard) Grenier, and nephew, Nelson (Rachel) Da Silva.
Visitation with the family will be on Friday, February 24, 2023 from 12 Noon until 12:45 PM at Lawrence Funeral Home. Graveside services will be conducted at 1 PM on Friday, February 24, 2023 at Swanson Cemetery with Jamie Pratt officiating. Interment will follow at Swanson Cemetery in Chapel Hill, TN.
