It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Fawn Marie Mefferd, cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, who left this world on November 16, 2025. She was a woman of great strength and compassion whose legacy will be carried on by her loving family and friends.
She leaves behind her husband of 53 years, Stephen; her daughters, Bobbi (Scott), Patti (Eric), and Cindi (Jeremy); her son, Stephen Roy; her brother, Jeff (Melanie); grandchildren Jacob (Mandy), Rebecca (Colton), Brianna, Kathryn (Quintin), Tylar (Molly), Ethan, Simon, River, and Kira as well as the grandchildren of the heart, Paige, Alaina, Marc, Rook, and Audrey. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Edith Christine; her parents, Dale and Patricia Darnell; her stepmother, Kay Darnell and brothers, Marvin, Jerry, and Ron.
Fawn was born on September 19, 1953, in Cherokee, Iowa. During her high school years, she began corresponding with a serviceman named Stephen Mefferd, who was stationed alongside her brother Jerry. What began as simple correspondence blossomed into a love that would endure the test of time. Fawn and Stephen pledged their love to one another on June 10, 1972, at the First Reformed Church in Everly, Iowa. She embraced her new role as a full-time housewife and mother.
Fawn discovered her true passion in helping others after becoming Certified Nursing Assistant at a local nursing home. With a strong drive to expand her knowledge and skills, she enrolled in college, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Nursing from Drake University in 1999. Over her remarkable 30-year nursing career, she focused on geriatric care, working through the ranks to become a specialist in Medicare Administration Coordination.
Honoring Fawn's wishes, her remains were donated to the Northern Michigan University Center for Forensic Science Research program. By making this generous choice, she continues to care for others by contributing to advancements in scientific research. The positive influence she had on so many lives is truly beyond measure; Fawn made a lasting difference, enriching the lives of those she cared for.
