NICHOLAS brothers tap dancing was AMAZING!!! Their style was so unique (combination of acrobatics, ballet and athletic). It has never been duplicated in all these years. What a wonderful contribution they made to the art's......SUCH GREATNESS will be missed

I met Fayard, who was a Baha'i, in Los Angeles at an event my Father (Character actor Patrick Sullivan Burke...born Merrill LEVINE) organized at the Motion Picture Country Home. That was about 1981-3. I was also a member of the same Baha'i Faith.

His work will be a gift to all until the end of time. Enjoying the Nicholas brothers. mams, Austin, TX

Fayard you will be missed, you danced with so much grace your hands & feet just moved with so much style. You made the splits look so easy the way you would come up with a smile . Now may you rest in the house of our creator, BLESS YOU.

The Nicholas brothers were definately a testament to african ingenuity in that they were ahead of their times often performing gravity defying manuevers that latter day breakdancers found dificult even in Addidas!

"Fayard & Harold Nicholas" Names that are known and faces that we will always remember. They enjoyed what they did and they lived a good life. God needed to hear and see for himself the talent that they had, and Fayard was needed for his act. Two brothers with that much talent,and ambition lives forever, but we'll always feel an empty space in our hearts, But when we do feel sorrow, just turn on one of their performances of: Cab Calloway- Jumpin Jive or Dorothy Dandridge- Chattanooga Choo Choo, and see those brothers tap away.And that will cheer our mourning hearts. Fayard & Harold Nicholas will most definitly be missed. My heart and prays go out to their family and friends. But I know that they are in a happier and free place where they can tap anywhere they want. My name is Shvon Clifton and I'm 15 years old, and those two brothers are inspirations to my life. I love them dearly. They bodies are at rest, but their spirits tap on in heaven. Reunited again they are happy and we should be too, to know that their work on earth is completed, but they have a whole other page to do on the other side. I love you Fayard & Harold, but God loves you more. Rest In peace, and if we all walk in the path of God, then we all will be reunited at the gates heaven. I'll be seeing you. ~1~

May God bless Harold and Fayard Nicholas. These guys were true originals and we may never see the likes of them again. I was blessed to take a master tap class with Fayard in the summer of 2005,shortly before his passing and I will never forget his wonderful spirit and dance knowledge. Tap is heaven and now heaven will be filled with the wonderful sounds of the Nicholas brothers.

My father stated he met you once back when he was a dancer and he always looked up to you and your brother for uping the way he danced. Thank you for giving him the dream and a legecy for all.

I've always admired the Nicholas Brothers for their talents in visual and performing arts, courage for dealing with the racism of the time, and their classy and charming manners.

Harold's appearance in the Robert Townsend film classic "The Five Heartbeats", is still a thrill to see. Since Fayard's passing I've been totally obsessed with finding visual arts footage of these guys,such as "Stormy Weather", "We Sing, We Dance", their 1992 PBS documentary, and "Orchestra Wives." I feel it's my duty and honor to show these films to people, especially the younger generation so that their incredible legacy will not be forgotten.

R.I.P. Fayard! Now you and Harold can show them how it's done in Heaven.

In 1977, fresh out of art school in Pittsburgh, and some tap basics under my belt, I moved to Los Angeles. While there I was told of a Eugene Jackson, a tap dancer that had a dance studio in Compton, CA. I contacted Mr. Jackson and became a regular at his studio for more tap training on Saturdays. Mr. Jackson was a true performer. A song and dance man, musician, actor, comedian . . . you name it, he did it! As a child, he was one of the originals in the "Our Gang" silent comedies, named "Pineapple", and played various bit roles in films from the 1920's until he passed in 2001. One particular day, Mr. Jackson called to say he would be headed up to San Francisco for the next three weeks, to do a movie. Oh how I sad I became, because I couldn't imagine not going to the studio for that long of a period. So he told me he had a friend he would call to see if he would continue with my tap dance instruction. Unbeknownst to me at the time, that friend turned out to be Mr. Fayard Nicholas himself. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. The master himself would be teaching me? . . . no way! So for the next 7 months, I received tap instruction from Fayard Nicholas. Those were some of the happiest days of my life. Seeing Fayard and Mr. Jackson singing and cajoling at the piano and having a good ole time. From that moment, an everlasting friendship was made. So to Fayard Nicholas I say, I love you, and appreciate all that you have shared with me through the years. I will miss your presence on this planet. But you have left a great legacy. You truly changed my life by showing me the meaning of LIFE and JOY, disguised as a dance. I wonder what you and Harold are up to to next!

WOW!.....WOW!...WOW!...WHAT CAN I SAY BUT THAT THE NICHOLAS BROTHERS WERE DYNAMITE!! THEY WERE DEFINITELY FRED ASTAIRE'S 1ST COMPETITON BACK IN OLD HOLLYWOOD, BUT THEY TURNED FRED OUT WITHOUT A DOUBT!! (I DON'T THINK I'VE EVER SAW THEM IN ANYTHING TOGETHER EITHER). WHEN I FIRST SAW THEM IN "STORMY WEATHER" DOING THAT DANCE ROUTINE DOING THE SPLITS DOWN THAT LONG WINDING STAIRCASE, HEY IT WAS THE BEST DANCE ROUTINE I HAVE EVER SEEN!! CAN'T TOUCH THIS!! I AM STILL IN AWE AFTER ALL THESE YEARS!!.



THEY KEPT ON TAP DANCING THROUGH THE OLD PREJUDICES AND SEGREGATION IN THE SUNRISE OF THEIR CAREERS--PERSEVERING....TAPPING............

TAP, TAP, TAP.....THE BEAT GOES ON!..... THEY BECAME AND REMAIN VICTORIOUS UNTIL THE SUNSET OF THEIR LIVES. THE NICHOLAS BROTHERS SAYING TO THE WORLD...... AND IT TOLD YOU, YOU STILL....CAN'T TOUCH THIS!!!
