Leaving behind a legacy of love that will forever be remembered, Faye Ellen Sutton Greene passed away peacefully at her home on April 24, 2024, just weeks before her 95th birthday.

Faye was born May 12, 1929, the oldest of four children of Dan and Minnie Sutton.

She was predeceased by her husband, J.D. Greene; brother, Frank Sutton, granddaughter, Christa Helms Austin, great-grandson, Timothy Whitmire, great-niece, Hanna Price and long-time companion, Lloyd King.

She was wonderfully devoted to her four children, Pat Helms (Parks), Lynn Greene (Annette), Maleah Whitmire, and Rick Greene (Karen).

She was a loving Grandma/Gommie to Monty Coleman (Bill), Lori Cribb (Ken), Mitzi Snipes (Bruce), Josh Greene (Laura Leigh), Matt Greene (Jessica), Bethany Rutledge (Hunter), Ben Whitmire (Jenifer), Mia Whitmire (Tim) and Bryan McManus (Michelle).

She was Grandma/Maw Maw Greene to great-grandchildren, Tess Setser (Clay), Sophie Coleman, Hanna Baucom (Dillon), Clayton Austin, Anna Caroline Rabon (James Edens), Ashby Cribb (Alyssa), Madison Clark (Austin), McKenzie Clary, Caleb Clary (Cienna), Paxton, Presleigh, Payton and Pierce Greene, Colter Rutledge, Chloe Greene, Mallory Collins, Gracie Whitmire, Emmaline Wallace, and Cate and Jake McManus, as well as great-great-grandchildren Sawyer Setser, Alli Clark, and Brytin and Denton Baucom, all of whom she adored beyond words.

She is the beloved namesake for one granddaughter, two great-granddaughters, and one great-great-granddaughter.

Also left to cherish her memory are her sister, Libby Price (Bill), brother, Grady Sutton (Sue), nieces, Dawn Harrell (Dean), and Kim Baucom, and nephew Darren Sutton (Kylie).

Faye was born in Cabarrus County and raised in Union County. She spent numerous rewarding years working for the Union County Senior Nutrition Program, and later enjoyed many years as a caregiver to elderly individuals, providing a great source of comfort and support to the families for which she served.

She was a lifelong member of Antioch Baptist Church and found strength and solace in her faith, spending hours on end studying her Bible. She would say her favorite books of the bible were Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John simply because she loved reading “the words written in red”. Her unwavering faith was a guiding light, inspiring all who knew her to live a life of grace and kindness.

Faye loved to love on people. She found immense joy in the kitchen and was the best cook in the world. The instant someone walked into her home, she would offer something to eat. She always remembered what our favorites were. In years past, she spent countless hours tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. She loved to stock her pantry with canned vegetables, generously sharing with family and friends. She also delighted in going out to eat and socializing. Her favorite place was Rocky River Springs Fish House and we loved going there with her as a family.

Faye had a sharp wit and quick humor. We are thankful that her intelligence and sharp mind remained with her to the very end. We liked to say that she was the smartest one of us in the whole bunch!

More than anything else, Faye treasured her family and she will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 28 at Antioch Baptist Church, 6223 Love Mill Rd., Monroe, NC 28110.

The family will receive friends at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 28 before the service at the church.
In place of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts may be made to Antioch Baptist Church or Novant Health Hospice, PO Box 33549, Charlotte, NC 28233.

The family is sincerely grateful to Jane Clark for her many years as a loyal caregiver, and most recently Faye’s granddaughter, Mia, for her constant and thoughtful care as well as Hospice Nurses, Margaret, Vette, Jutina, and Joanne, for caring for her in her final days.
