Mrs. Williams was born April 20, 1932, in Barnardsville to the late Rev. Jesse N. and Patrea Burleson Shuford. She was a lifelong resident of Henderson and Buncombe Counties. She attended Dana High School and Barnardsville High School, and was proud of having been valedictorian of her graduating class. After many years as a member of Barnardsville Baptist Church and First Baptist Church, Weaverville, she became a member of Weaverville United Methodist Church. She was a devoted Sunday School teacher (known to many who loved her as “Ms. Faye”) and a faithful member of the church choirs. For almost thirty years, she was a dedicated and enthusiastic employee at Tuesday Morning in Asheville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Jack Neal Williams, her elder son, Neal Shuford Williams, her sister, Velda Shuford Duyck, and her brother, Ellis Lee Shuford.
She is survived by her son, Nathan Williams, and his husband Gordon Sparber (of Austin, Texas), and her nieces Pamela Duyck, Teresa (John) Mathews, Yvonne (Jim) Stiles (of Asheville), Adelia (Ronnie) Mace (of Morganton), and Elizabeth Shuford Mack (of Orlando, Florida). The family would like to thank the StoneCreek Health and Rehabilitation community and Medi Home Hospice for their care and kindness, as well as family friends Duke and Vicki Ison, and Jeryl Sloan.
A private graveside burial will take place at a later date.
