Felipe Leiva Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cypress Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Park on Feb. 26, 2026.
Felipe Oswaldo Leiva

September 8, 1960 – February 18, 2026

With heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the passing of Felipe Leiva, who passed peacefully in his sleep in San Francisco on February 18, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 65 years old. Throughout his long fight, Felipe faced his illness with a smile and an unwaveringly positive spirit, inspiring all who knew him with his strength, grace, and resilience.

Born on September 8, 1960, in San Salvador, Felipe carried his Salvadoran roots with pride throughout his life. He later made his home in Daly City, where he built a life defined by hard work, devotion to family, and determination. He pursued his education at The National Hispanic University, an accomplishment that reflected his commitment to personal growth and perseverance.

Felipe was a proud retiree of the City and County of San Francisco, marking the culmination of many years of dedicated public service. Among his proudest achievements was becoming a United States citizen - a milestone that symbolized perseverance, hope, and the fulfillment of a lifelong dream.

Above all, Felipe's greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Blanca Leiva; his daughter, Andrea Leiva; his cherished grandson, Cristian Lorenzo Leiva; his siblings, Julia Leiva and Ademir Leiva; and many beloved nieces and nephews who will carry forward his memory and spirit. The birth of his children, and later his grandson, were among the most meaningful and treasured moments of his life. He was preceded in death by his son, Cristian Leiva; his brother, Walter Leiva; and his parents, Amada Julia Merlos de Leiva and Felipe Leiva.

Felipe was confident, resilient, charismatic, and endlessly enthusiastic. His presence could light up a room, his laughter was contagious, and his strength uplifted those around him. He loved returning to El Salvador to reconnect with his homeland and cherished family trips to Disneyland. A passionate sports fan, he proudly cheered for the Las Vegas Raiders, Golden State Warriors, Juventus, and the Portugal national football team, celebrating every victory with unmatched energy and pride.

Felipe's life was defined by love - love for his family, his heritage, his community, and the simple joys that made life meaningful. Though he is no longer with us, his strength, humor, and unwavering spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A funeral ceremony will be held on March 6, 2026, at 12:30 PM at Olivet Gardens Chapel.

Memorial donations and flowers may be sent to Blanca and Andrea Leiva at Cypress Lawn.

Felipe will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
