Fern Zubiate, our most beloved mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend, gained her wings on Friday, October 4th, 2024, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Fern was born in Roosevelt, Utah, to William Isaac and Edna May Jenkins on May 26th, 1944. She was known for her beautiful spirit and was many family members' favorite aunt and grandmother. Fern left a lasting impression of how important it is to live a life full of compassion, kindness, spontaneity, and wisdom while maintaining a youthful spirit. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was a true believer in reuniting with her loved ones who passed before her, especially Melissa Blood, her daughter who passed eight months ago.

Fern's hobbies included reading, genealogy, puzzles, spending time with her family, and staying connected to her loved ones. Fern worked for Tresco for many years and was a coach to many clients whom she became deeply connected to because of her loving and inclusive nature. Fern's friends and family loved, cherished, and adored her; many wrote to her daughters about how important she was to their lives.

Surviving Fern is her husband and life partner of over 50 years, Rafael Zubiate, and together, they created a blended family. Together, they had nine children: Lorrie Ann (Adolfo) Ozaeta, Kim (Sam) Zubiate, Steven (Lori) Blood, Shane (Anabel) Jenkins, Caroline (Carlos) Telles, Shanda Zubiate, Nicole (Leo) Delgado, and Sarah (Anthony) Zubiate. She had 25 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, family, and friends, all of whom she loved dearly. Fern is preceded in death by her parents, older siblings, beloved daughter Melissa Blood, and her granddaughter Rachael Zubiate.

Her family would like to thank her medical team and the nurses and staff at Mesilla Valley Hospice. Her transition was peaceful and full of love. Your care comforted our family and mom in our most sorrowful time.

Please join us as we celebrate Fern's life at Getz Funeral Home on October 11th, 2024. Visitation will begin at 9 am, and service will start at 10 am.
