Fernanda Giardino, age 86, of Rome, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026, at the Abraham House of Rome.
Fernanda was born in Corchiano, Italy on February 10, 1940, to the late Agosto and Giuseppina Pourri. While working at the family grocery store in Rome, Italy, she was introduced to a young Airman, Frank A. Giardino, from Rome, New York. They fell in love and were married on July 2, 1964. They came back to Rome and Fernanda joined Frank in the family business, Westgate Bakery, where they decorated cakes together until the bakery closed. Fernanda worked at Stonehedge nursing home and then talked her way into the kitchen at Rome Murphy & Memorial Hospital where she was employed for over 40 years. That is where she earned her nickname Fast Freddie!
Fernanda was an avid gardener and loved her plants and flowers. She loved to bake and cook for family and friends. She enjoyed sewing, including alterations for family and friends.
Fernanda is survived by her daughters, Mary Ann Giardino of Rome, and Susan Giardino-Danielski of Westmoreland; her grandchildren, Ryan, Gabrielle, Zackery (Alexis), and Tyler; her two great grandchildren, Francis VI and Sophia; and two nieces in Italy, Antonella and Elisabetta. She was predeceased by her spouse Frank; son-in-law, Edwin Danielski; her brother and sister-in-law, Romolo & Lena Silvestrini; and many beloved pets with whom she is now reunited with.
Fernanda's funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at 5 PM, at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects from 4 to 5 PM prior to the service.
