Fernando Baragano Jr., age 86, of Anthony, Florida, passed away on March 23, 2026. He was born on July 10, 1939 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, a son of Fernando and Elsie Gonzalez Baragano.
Fernando passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends at the Grace Davis Hall Hospice House.He is preceded by his parents and sister Maria "Nini" Howard, as well as his grandson Michael Baragano.Fernando leaves behind to cherish his memory: his wife Barbara Cox; son Fernando Baragano, III (Elke); daughter Grisele Baragano; stepdaughter Heather Shankwiler (Kevin); grandson Christopher Allan Shankwiler; and stepdaughter Dr. Kelley Cox, DVM. Fernando would also want mentioned some very special people in his life - there are many he loved, but Evelyn Reyes and Arturo Gonzalez especially were family to Fernando.
Fernando was a passionate and devoted horseman who loved the Paso Fino breed. In his lifetime he was a breeder, owner, judge, mentor, and rider. He was an avid competitor who won many titles and awards showing Paso Finos in Puerto Rico as well as the US. His favorite stallion, Samaritano de Selecta, was just awarded the titles of #1 USEF Sire of the Year, as well as the #1 PFHA Sire of the Year.
In his retirement, Fernando enjoyed watching the horses on the farm - Winning Colors Paso Finos - in Anthony Florida. He also loved the many dogs that resided there as well, especially his devoted Goldendoodle, Chewy, who was always by his side.Before his retirement Fernando owned and ran his business in San Juan, P.R., F. Baragano, Inc., a pharmaceutical distribution company.
Per Fernando's request, there will not be a formal funeral service, but he asked for a mass to be said in his name at Queen of Peace. The mass will be at 11:30 a.m. on May 17, 2026.
