Florence "Wospi" Eagleman

Florence "Wospi" Eagleman, a cherished educator and beloved family member, passed away peacefully in Poplar, Montana, on January 27, 2025. Born on June 12, 1936, in Poplar, she dedicated a significant portion of her life to the community, serving as a teacher's aide at Poplar Elementary School for many years. Her passion for education was evident in her work, and it broke her heart when she had to retire.

Florence had a multitude of interests and hobbies that reflected her vibrant spirit. She enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting with her son Dennis and fishing with her partner Joe. An avid reader, she was especially fond of Westerns by Louis L'Amour and romance novels. Florence also had a unique talent for trivia; she frequently watched Jeopardy and could recall answers with remarkable accuracy. Additionally, she took great pleasure in attending pow wows, going on cruises with friends, playing cards in the morning while listening to the radio, and maintaining a close friendship with her neighbor Noreen over the years.

Florence is survived by her three loving daughters, Nadine Richards, Della Brown, and Joanne Browning. She also leaves behind her brother Michael Youngman Sr, her grandchildren—Frank Red Eagle Jr of Poplar, Misty Florez and Jamie Bryan of Billings, Marcie Haines of Gilbert, Arizona, Laura Longee of Vancouver, Washington, Amanda Green of Gilbert, Arizona, Jasy Brown of Longview, Washington, Danelle Drags Wolf of Poplar, Dellaine Darnell of Poplar and Ira Darnell Jr of Poplar—and her great-grandchildren, as well as four great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents, William Youngman Sr and Ruth Standing Bear, along with her siblings Lucy Youngman, William Youngman Sr, Josephine Youpee, Douglas Youngman, Christine Lizotte, Larry Youngman, Nettie Myrick, Rita Long Chase, and her beloved son Dennis Red Boy.

Services in honor of Florence Eagleman will be held at the Poplar Cultural Center, located at 702 Court Ave, Poplar, MT 59255. A prayer service is scheduled for February 3, 2025, starting at 7:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM on February 4, 2025. Interment will take place shortly thereafter at Box Elder Cemetery.

Florence will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love, kindness, and intelligence will continue to inspire those whose lives she touched.
