FLORENCE EWIGMAN Obituary
FLORENCE EWIGMAN
Florence Ewigman, 93, of rural Marceline, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Saturday, August 17, 2024. Florence Josephine was born on her family farm near Hamden, Missouri on February 27, 1931 to Thomas and Elizabeth (Nanneman) Marek. She graduated from St Joseph High School in Salisbury, Missouri in 1948. Florence married Leo Wayne Ewigman on April 14, 1953 and he proceeded her in death in 2012. Their union brought forth seven sons and one daughter, who were all raised on the family farm.
Florence thrived as a homemaker for many years, but later worked for Walsworth publishing company as a cottage worker, and then at Susie's Place, later known as Ma Vic's, where she was affectionately called "Flo" by her co-workers. She enjoyed this work outside the home, and often joked that she was finally getting paid for doing dishes and cooking. Florence was lovingly referred to as "Grandma Wiggy" to almost everyone in town. A true matriarch and source of joy, she did not limit her love, as it stretched far beyond her 8 kids, 25 grandkids, as well as a growing tribe of great grandchildren. She always had her door open and a place at the table for anyone who stopped by. She frequently talked about the extra kids that grew up at the farm with her own children, and always welcomed them with open arms. She was often found in the kitchen, making her famous cinnamon rolls, sweet tea or homemade pancakes. She enjoyed bingo nights, taco Tuesday, word searches, penny slots, and canasta. Her conversations would be filled with phrases like "for land sakes", or "how you doin' feller?" Later in life, she called herself an "old worn out old lady", but always wanted to know when she'd see you again.
She is survived by her eldest son, John, of the home in Marceline, sons, Steve (Rose) & Kenny (Lisa) of Marceline, David (Janelle) of Lee's Summit, Richard (Karlene) of Centralia, daughter-in-laws, Linda of Marceline, Leslie Walker of Jackson, and daughter, Cheryl (David) Stallo of Columbia, brother Earnest Marek of Mesa, AZ, grandchildren Melissa (Carl) Graves, Kristin, Samantha, & Ryan Ewigman, Amie, Allan (Amanda), Scott, Lee (Kirsten), Andrew (Lindsey), Luke (Emily), & Jake (Andrea) Ewigman, Logan & Dakota Ewigman, Brian (Sandra) & Eric (Christian) Ewigman, Amanda (Shawn) Lewis, Tony (Chelsea) Ewigman, Christopher (Kallie) Ewigman, Adam (Katie)Walker, Jason Ewigman, Jordan Beck, & Lauren (Brian) Mosier, Avery, Charley, and Elle Stallo, as well as 29+great grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her husband Leo, parents, a stillborn infant, sons Mark and Randy Ewigman, sisters, Loretta Monnig & Alice Stephens, brother Andrew Marek, daughter-in-law, Jeanette Ewigman, and several extended family members.
