Florence Fee Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 28, 2026.
Florence Elaine Fee, age 62, of Gulston, Kentucky, was called home on Friday, February 27, 2026, at Hazard ARH after a sudden illness. She was born on March 29, 1963, in Harlan, Kentucky, to the late Reme and Mary Ann Eversole Halcomb, and spent much of her life in the Gordon and Linefork areas.

Elaine, as most knew her, was the kind of woman who made every room a little brighter and every person in it feel genuinely seen and cared for. She had a servant's heart in the truest sense. As a certified nurse's assistant at The Laurels, she didn't just do her job, she went far beyond it, taking the time to purchase Christmas gifts for every elderly resident in her care, year after year, out of her own pocket and from the fullness of her heart. That was simply who she was. No child she ever met went without feeling special, and no cause she believed in went without her support. For years she gave faithfully to St. Joseph's Children and the Shriners, because giving back wasn't something Elaine did occasionally, it was something she did naturally.

She worked hard throughout her life, also serving her community at KFC in Harlan, and carried her Christian faith as both an anchor and a guiding light. At home, she took great pride in a clean house and a beautiful yard, and her door was always open to anyone who needed a place to sit and a good conversation. She loved shopping, treasured a good yard sale find, and had a gift for making ordinary moments feel warm and memorable.

But if you asked Elaine what mattered most, the answer was simple, her grandchildren. They were her world, her joy, and her greatest treasure.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Harrison Gilliam; her daughter, Mary Jane Engle; her son, Ernest Dale Engle; her brothers, Ronnie and Roger Halcomb; and her sister, Gaynell Halcomb.

Left to carry her love forward is her devoted husband of thirty years, Logan Fee, who stood by her side through every season of life; her brother, Robert Halcomb; her sisters, Rebecca Brewer, Fannie (Eddie) Combs, and Robin Louise (Otis) Halcomb; and her three precious grandchildren, Braden Larry Logan Engle, Kassidy Elaine Engle, and Steven McCain Fee.

Elaine didn't have a mean bone in her body, and the world was a gentler, kinder place because she was in it. She will be loved and forever missed.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Dennis and Dorothy Combs Cemetery in Linefork, Kentucky.
