Florence Mae Johnson, age 80, of Quincy, died peacefully on Friday, October 29, 2021, at 10:40 am surrounded by her family.
Florence was born June 9, 1941 in Quincy, Illinois the daughter of Roy and Mary Belle Payne Parker. She married Leon Johnson. He survives.
Florence was employed at the Illinois Veterans Home for many years in the laundry department and eventually as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). She later worked as a supervisor in the kitchen at the Western Illinois Correctional Center in Mount Sterling, Illinois. Florence retired a few times, but she was always ended up finding a new position as a CNA. Her last position, out of retirement, was a the Quincy Senior and Family Resource Center.
Florence loved her family dearly and cherished any time spent with her family at gatherings, cookouts, playing cards, and especially attending her grandchildren's activities like the Blue Devil Basketball and Football games. Florence was a faith filled woman who loved attending Union Missionary Baptist Church and loved her church family.
Survivors in addition to her husband, Leon, include three children, Vikki Crider of Quincy, IL, Timmy Jackson of St. Louis, MO, and Shelly Jackson of Quincy; 10 grandchildren, Stefan (Julie) Crider, Jr., Shalena Crider, Shalana Crider, and Donte Clausell, all of Quincy, Tiffany Chapman of Bowling Green, VA, Crystal Tanner of GA, Joseph Ball of Quincy, Keyonee (Charles) Smothers of Romeoville, IL, Ralph Thompson, and Ayana Thompson, both of Quincy, 42 great-grandchildren; 27 great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Katherine Sprague of Springfield, IL, Clester (Ralph) Lewis of Detroit, MI, Bessie Lewis of Quincy, and Vivian Stone of Atlanta, GA; two brothers, Nathaniel Parker, Sr. and Roger Parker, Sr., both of Quincy; numerous nieces and nephews; her best friend, Clarice (Paul) Lewis; and special friends, Laura Parker and Sheila (Brian) Griffin.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Earl Jackson, Jr., two sisters, Ernestine Parker and Sarah Nixon, and a brother, Roy Parker, Jr.
Services: 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Union Missionary Baptist Church, with Rev. Cecil Fletcher officiating.
Burial: Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois
Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday November 5, 2021 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
