With grateful hearts, we celebrate the life and legacy of Mrs. Florence E. Staples, who peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on November 5, 2025, at the blessed age of 100.
Born on April 30, 1925, the daughter of James and Dorthea Sorrell of Warsaw, VA, she lived a life of grace, strength, and unwavering faith. A devoted member of Heard African Methodist Episcopal Church in Roselle, NJ, she faithfully served for many decades as a Sunday School teacher and was an active member of the Woman's Club, Flower Club, Missionary Society, and Travel Club, where her leadership, generosity, and joyful spirit touched the lives of countless people. Her faith was steadfast and was sincerely reflected not only in her words but also in the love and kindness she extended to all.
A woman of elegance and refinement, Mrs. Staples was admired for her impeccable sense of style and timeless grace. Whether at church, a family gathering, or a community event, she carried herself with dignity and poise, always representing her faith and family with excellence.
Her love for travel brought great joy throughout her life. She delighted in exploring new places, meeting new people, and creating cherished memories with family and friends. Her adventurous spirit reflected her appreciation for the beauty of God's world and the richness of life itself.
Mrs. Staples' legacy is one of faith, family, and love. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William F. Staples Jr; two daughters, Rhonda L. Staples and Dorothy A. (Staples) King, both from Roselle, NJ. Her precious memories will forever remain with her daughter, Carol V. (Staples) Scott of Las Vegas, NV, and son William F. Staples III of Williamsburg, VA; eight grandsons and two granddaughters, fifteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward her strength, wisdom, and warmth.
Her life was truly a reflection of Proverbs 31: "She is clothed with strength and dignity, and her works praise her in the gates."
Mrs. Florence E. Staples will be remembered for her devotion to God, her love for her family, her graceful presence, and her unshakable faith. Her spirit will continue to inspire and guide all who knew her.
