Florence Williams Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cook & Son-Pallay Funeral Home - Columbus on Dec. 18, 2025.
With heavy hearts and fond memories, we announce the passing of Florence "Sue" Williams on December 17, 2025. Born in Columbus, Ohio, on September 16, 1935, to John and Florence Sims, Sue spent her entire 90 years in the county she loved. Sue was a vibrant and unique individual, fondly known as the "cat lady" of Grove City. Her passion for felines was legendary, caring for as many as 26 cats at one time.

Sue was married to the love of her life, Willie Williams, on December 7, 1958, and together they built a beautiful life full of love and laughter until Willie's passing. She was an integral part of the Western Electric family as a telephone operator until her retirement in 1975. Her laughter and charm were infectious, and her colleagues still recall her fondly. When asked once what mattered most to her, Sue responded simply, "My family," a statement that encapsulates her incredibly nurturing spirit.

Sue is survived by her loving family. She was a beloved mother to Loretta Skinner, cherished grandmother to Crystal (Jimmy) Moore, Georgianna (Jason) Baehr, Shannon Filyo, Billie (Rich) Bininger, and Karen Skinner. She was also an adored great-grandmother to Kristin, Larissa, John, Austin, Allison, Cecelia, Abby, Mia, Jake, Chloe, Caitlyn, Calista, and Lorelei, and dearly loved great-great-grandmother to Emma, Thea, Everleigh, Lilyanna, and Remington. Sue was predeceased by her parents, John and Florence Sims, her dear husband Willie Williams, her brothers Johnny and Ralph, and her daughter, Mary Mitchell.

As we mourn this loss, we also celebrate Sue's life and the joy she brought to all those around her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her, and the stories they share. We invite you to leave memories, upload photos, and share in the celebration of Sue's life on her memorial page. Your stories and shared experiences are the greatest testament to the incredible woman that was Florence "Sue" Williams.

Donations can be made to Hospice of Columbus in her memory.
