Florene Shadid Deeba passed away peacefully at her home on September 19, 2025, at the age of 90, surrounded by her loving family

She was born the second of four children to parents Lamy S. and Dorothy Tayar Shadid on April 15, 1935, in Oklahoma City, OK.

Florene spent her childhood working closely with her family at her parent’s grocery store, Community Grocery, which instilled a lifelong passion for hard work and helping others which she passed down to her children and grandchildren. Growing up in a tight knit Lebanese community, she loved being one of the “original” Shadid cousins and remained close to them all her life.

On October 24, 1954, Florene married Elmer Deeba and moved to Drumright, OK where the Deeba’s owned and operated a retail store. In 1960, they moved their family to Oklahoma City Together, they owned and operated the liquor store on 13th and Lottie until purchasing Quail Creek Liquor in Oklahoma City. The two worked together every day, sharing 32 years until his passing in 1986.

Florene was a woman of strong faith. She was a lifelong member of St. Elijah Orthodox Christian Church; her devotion to her Orthodox Christian faith shaped every part of her life. She also served faithfully in the Bonne Heure Club, a charitable organization where she held every office and contributed to many philanthropic efforts. Through her commitment to family, community, and service, Florene has left a lasting example of integrity, purpose, and grace.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer M. Deeba; her sister and brother-in-law, Cherene and Clyde Clark; her brother, Dr. Nabeal Shadid; sister-in-law Lorene Deeba Farha; brothers-in-law Mitchell Shanbour and Andy Kraker; brother and sister-in-law Phil and Katherine Shadid; and her nephew Richard Kraker.

Florene is survived by four children: Debbie (Steve) Williams, Michael Deeba, Stacey (Dr. George) Naifeh, and Terri (Nick) Kakish; grandchildren, Barrett Naifeh and Anna Kakish. She is also survived by her sister, Linda Shadid Shanbour; sisters-in-law Carol Shadid and Gloria Kraker; brother and sister-in-law Roger and Cookie Deeba; and brother and sister-in-law Dr. Floyd and Janelle Rashid. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will miss her beyond measure.

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Yolanda Underwood and Lara Gaston for their compassionate care and loving support of Florene.

Visitation with the family will be held at Smith & Kernke on Thursday September 25 from 4-6 P.M.
