Floris Moore Houston, born on August 29, 1950, in Bluefield, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2025, in Bristol, Tennessee. She leaves behind a legacy rich in kindness, dedication, and love that will forever be cherished by her family and friends.

Floris graduated from Park Central High School in 1968 and received a Bachelor's of Arts degree from Bluefield State College. She was a life-long Beatles fan, enjoying their music from the time they came to America. Floris devoted her career to service, beginning as a bookkeeper at Flat Top National, which evolved into First Community Bank, where she received several certificates from The American Institute of Banking. Her professional journey continued as she transitioned into the Trust Department, followed by her role as a paralegal at Jessee & Reed law firm. Floris later served as a clerk for Melvin Ritchie in the Commissioner of Revenue office, demonstrating her adaptability and commitment to her work. Taking a brief break from her career, she pursued further education, earning her master's degree in social work from Radford University, where she was a member of the Phi Alpa Honor Society. Her professional achievements culminated in her retirement from Catholic Church Charities in Norton in 2010, where she made a lasting impact on the community.

Married to her beloved husband, Larry Houston, since 1970, the couple created a nurturing home together, moving to Abingdon, Virginia, in 1985. Floris was known for her active involvement in her faith community, serving on both the Parish Life Committee and Finance Committee at Christ the King Church. Her contributions extended beyond her professional life, as she embodied the spirit of service in every aspect of her being.

Floris was a kind and welcoming presence, always making others feel at ease with her warm personality and great sense of humor. She found joy in simple pleasures, such as reading and engaging with friends on Facebook. A passionate sports fan, she particularly adored West Virginia University basketball, often delighting in watching games, even those from years past.

She is survived by her dear husband, Larry D. Houston; her daughter, Vanessa Frances Houston; son, Robert Bruce Houston (Holly); and her grandson, Bruce Sterling Houston: her brother Robert E. Moore (Jackie). Floris also leaves behind her special cousin, Stacey C. McDonald, a host of extended family on the Dickerson-Chapman side, her nephew, Robert E Moore Jr., and niece, Genevra Moore, who will hold her memory close to their hearts.
