Floy May went to be with her Maker on Thursday, February 23, 2023 after a lengthy battle with several health issues. She was living in a memory care facility in Southlake, Texas.
Floy May was born on July 4, 1930 on the family farm in Sayre, Oklahoma to Floy and Tiny May Tracy Stowers. She was the first of four siblings with Gerald Dean, Patricia, and Evelyn following. She attended and graduated from Carter High School.
As life would happen, she fell in love and married Steven Vernon Ely Jr. on June 4, 1949 and had four children, Lynda Kay Newton (Glen), Jimmy Vern Ely, Vonna Sue Hamann (Ken) and Paul Gene Ely (Marlona). They were blessed with ten grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and one great- great grandchild.
Steve's job took them to Mississippi, Texas, Oklahoma, and Wyoming where they settled in Big Piney, Wyoming for several years. In 1964 they moved the family to Pocatello, Idaho and lived there for thirty-two years. With all the children out of the house they decided to move back "home" to Elk City, Oklahoma in 1996. After the passing of Steve, Floy stayed in Elk City but eventually moved to Texas to be closer to her daughter, Kay.
Floy May was a very talented lady and always was at the sewing machine, knitting, crocheting, or her favorite, quilting. At the age of 82 she took up water color painting and was very good at it. She also loved to travel with Steve in their RV that took them from Alaska to Florida and many states in between.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Steve Ely, sister, Evelyn Fain; grandson, Scott Hamann; and daughter-in-law, Marlona Ely.
Graveside Services will be conducted 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 2, 2023 at Fairlawn Cemetery, Elk City, Oklahoma. Rev. Charlie Henthorn will officiate. Interment will be at Fairlawn Cemetery, Elk City, Oklahoma. Services have been entrusted to the care of Richard and Tammy Dugger and the staff of Martin-Dugger Funeral Home in Elk City, Oklahoma.
A Memorial service will be held at a later date at the Prairie View Baptist Church, Elk City, Oklahoma.
