I went to school with Floyd at Graymont Elementary School where he and his brother integrated the Birmingham School System.

I considered him a friend, both in elementary school and 2 years of high school. Many times we rode from high school together.

Many years later he contacted me and we renewed our friendship. I respected him immensely.

We've had many long conversations since then. I was shocked to learn of his passing. To his family and friends, know that Floyd was a man of strength, intelligence, and compassion.

I am truly sorry to hear of Floyd's passing. I only have fond memories of our childhood days growing up together on College Hill. It was those fun and playful days that helped offset the horrors of segregation in the city of Birmingham. I am grateful for our enduring family friendship and I pray for comfort and peace for Floyd's entire family.
