Floyd Engeling Obituary
Floyd W. Engeling, 84, passed away on Monday, January 12, 2026 in Harlingen, Texas. He was born on January 18, 1941 in Brenham, Texas to Raymond and Hattie Henske Engeling. Floyd loved life and lived his embracing the philosophy that there are no strangers; only friends one hasn’t met.
Floyd held jobs in a variety of fields until he found his niche at Ellison’s Greenhouses growing foliage plants, particularly the pothos ivy. In the horticulturist field, he quickly earned the reputation as one of the best growers around. He was always happy to share his knowledge and love of plants with other growers. He moved to Brownsville, Texas in 1991 and was the general manager of Rio Grande Nursery. He met his wife Joan in 1994 and upon retiring from the nursey business joined her at Rio Grande Valley Abstract. He was best known for his smile, jokes, stories and willingness to always help.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, his son Matthew, and his wife, Joan White Engeling. He is survived by his son, Mark Engeling and wife, Kristie, his brother Daniel Engeling and wife Gayle, his stepdaughters, Jacqui Dempsey and husband David and Jeri McDonnel and husband Jack along with 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Harlingen with a reception immediately following at the church. The family will gather for a private interment.
The family wishes to thank CJ and his team at Cornerstone Caregiving along with the nurses and doctors at Harlingen Medical Center and Windsor Rehabilitation Center for their compassionate care. A very special thanks to his friends at Cottonwood Country Club especially George and Patty Lopez, Gerald and Mary Haak, and Rick and Yvette Ortega for all their gift of friendship and help.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 602 Morgan, Harlingen, Tx 78550.
Floyd’s legacy of making each and every person he met feel special will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
