Floyd "Tom" Thomas Hines, a cherished and joyful soul, passed away on March 27, 2026, in Batavia, Ohio. Born on February 3, 1931, in Somerset, Kentucky, Tom lived a life marked by dedication, warmth, and a spirited sense of humor that endeared him to all who knew him.

A proud Army veteran, Tom honorably served his country during the Korean War, forging lasting friendships and embodying the valor and camaraderie of military service. Tom truly loved his country. After his time in the service, he devoted himself to his craft and found great fulfillment in his career as a blacksmith—a profession he truly loved and took pride in. Tom was very proud of his heritage and often spoke fondly of his home state of Kentucky.

Those who were fortunate enough to be in his company will remember Tom as a happy man, rarely seen without a laugh or a joke. His lightheartedness brightened the lives of family and friends alike. Outside of his work, Tom had a passion for the outdoors; he enjoyed gardening and yard work, hunting, and fishing. He also had an appreciation for new cars, a hobby that brought him considerable joy.

Tom's legacy is carried forward by his loving family. He is survived by his devoted daughter, Peggy Burke (the late Mike), and his sons, Tim Hines and Todd (Angela) Hines. His grandchildren, Nicole (Phillip) Hicks, Michael Burke, Reid Hines, and Nick Pickering, along with his many great-grandchildren—Braxton, Koy, Peyton, Bo, Ty, Trinity, Luke, Eli, Greyson, and Faith—continue to honor the warmth and spirit he imparted.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Hines and Delphia Hines (nee Vaught); his beloved wife of 73 years, Marjorie Hines (nee Applegate); his brothers, Elzie, James and Billy; and his sisters Ethel, Zella, Della, Lois, and Reese.

Services to celebrate the life of Floyd "Tom" Thomas Hines will be held on April 6, 2026, at Newcomer Funeral Home, West Side, located at 3300 Parkcrest Ln, Cincinnati, Ohio 45211. The visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the graveside service at 12:30 p.m.

Tom’s life was one of dedication—to family, country, and craft. His memory will forever be cherished as that of a spirited and loving man whose laughter and kindness left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure to know him. He had an unwavering love for the Lord God and his son Jesus Christ.

John 3:16
